Tourque Converter

IIs have a specific flexplate, converter and bellhousing. (and specific engine oilpan to clear the starter, too)
You can use a standard passenger car 302 oilpan if you use a mini-starter, as I did. (the II oil pan will not clear a main stud girdle)
You can use standard passenger car bellhousing, flexplate and converter, if you're not concerned with header fit.

I had the transmission shop build me a custom race converter based on the II unit. They even found me a II bellhousing, so when I picked up the C-4 they built for me, it was ready to go in my car.

My advice; stick with the II parts.

what is the size difference with a standard c4 bell converter and flywheel will it fit in the 2 also I called the local converter shop they want $285 to recondition it and change the bolt pattern

But, will it fit inside the bell?

May also run into starter nose interfearance issues.

I've always found it helpful to keep major assemblies matched sets. Bell/fly/pressure plate, or flex plate and converter.

If you have D5 bell and pan your in luck, these were the other popular parts of the II as they allowed for mounting in tight quarters.

I hear there are 'stahl' type converters available in the aftermarket for the II bell and plate because of their size advantages and the inherant size of delayed engagement converters.


I abandoned the II specific parts around '79 or '80. Full sized bells fit with factory manifolds. Great for torque, not so good for HP. Your left to your own devices to make headers fit. Or so I hear.

Torque Converter

TCI has a few converters for the MII....I just sold one on Ebay. You have to call them though and get the part number you need....then you can order THAT part number through Summit. Hope that helps.

The converters they sell from B&M and TCI for the II run in the neighborhood of about 400-450. So I'd say reconditioning is the way to go. It cost me $250 to have mine beefed up and made to a 3000 stall.
