wne to go look at a 02 gt with 52,000 on the clock and just had some questions. put about 5 miles on it and had no shifting issues.would you steer away from the car knowing the issues with the tr3650? one thing i did notice while looking under the car was that the surfaces between the trans had black silicone in them which means to me that someone was in the trans already and maybe the fix was done but the car is at a dealer so i have no service records from the previous owner. one other thing i noticed was an extended crank when i first started it up. it was fine every start after that. any ideas guys

If the car was stone cold when you started it and shifted fine, then i wouldn't worry. The problem is most evident the first couple shifts. As you put heat into the trans, it shifts better.

Extended crank is a common problem on 4.6L Mustangs. It's usually traced back to the Idle Air Controller. Like i said, very common problem. Mine will do it now and then.

It could also be from the car just sitting for a few days. Sometimes those cars at dealerships go a week or so between starts.

You could contact Ford and give them the VIN# and ask if their records show TSB 04-15-06 was performed

I have 127k miles on my TR3650 and it's still going strong. Take care of your stuff and it should last.

I think he posted to see if the car he is interested in was showing any of the 3650 issues and if it may be damaged goods. Can't take care of what you don't own and the guy before you may have screwed up

Should be fine, like Mustang5L5 said check with Ford and make sure the TSB 04-15-06 was performed. Here's you a link so you know what should be done.

The TR3650 behind my supercharged 2V is fine (although it is a very mild stock-internal 2V, it's still making boatloads more torque than stock...)

The issue with the 3650 involved notchy, grindy shifts, especially 1-2 and 2-3. If the car you've seen doesn't have the problem cold, then as 5L5 sez, you're probably good to go. The car is 8 years old now: It's likely the problem was fixed a while ago.

Regarding the long-crank: Look on the passenger-door for a sticker that'll read something like "MDE2". This is the code for the factory tune in the PCM. If yours says MDE2, consider finding a shop that can change the tune to an MDE3. Mine had long-crank issues with MDE2. When a shop did a new tune with MDE3 the problem vanished. When I went back to an MDE2-base for the blower tune, I noticed the long crank re-appears every once in a while. It may not be the problem but it was an observation I made...
