Traction Control question in here.......

OK, when i bought my GT, i really didnt know what traction control was... i got a GT without the button in the middle to turn the feature on and off... it was just a dead button there...

my question is, is there any way to hook up the traction control button in there to make it work? is the wiring already in there waiting for a button?

reason i ask, i remember on my old V6 for example, ford had the wiring for the foglights already in there, all i needed was the switch... is that the case on GT's with Trac control? because i know on the window sticker, it says i have traction control on the car, but i guess theres no way to turn it on and off

thanks...

Sinister, all Mustangs come w/ TractionLok Rear Differentials. That is not something you can enable/disable. What you're referring to is the Traction Control feature. Honestly, I am not sure if the module is in your car at all. If you don't have Traction Control, you also likely don't have ABS if I'm not mistaken. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that ABS & TC were optional beginning w/ I think 2002.

You are confusing traction control with a trac lock differential. You DON'T have traction control but your differential is a traction lock (limited slip). You should be happy that your car doesn't include traction control as it sucks in my opinion. I turn it off as soon as I start the car as do most people here.

Two different animals:

The all-speed traction control (the button on the dash) was an option. The system shuts off spark and/or fuel to the engine when it senses rear wheel spin.

The Traction Lok is a standard feature of GT 8.8" rear ends. It's a clutch-plate style limited-slip differential.

reason i ask, i remember on my old V6 for example, ford had the wiring for the foglights already in there, all i needed was the switch... is that the case on GT's with Trac lock? because i know on the window sticker, it says i have traction lock on the car, but i guess theres no way to turn it on and off

I suspect it's more than just a switch: the car would need ABS at the least (does the car have that?) and probably needs PCM code as well with the feature enabled.

Damn, beat me to it!

Yes, ABS and traction control go together. On 99-04 you can't get one without the other unless you turn off traction control with a computer tune.

I assume you mean traction control, as the traction lock is located in the diff and are two different things.

So you just got a 2004 GT and it doesn't have TCS?

Not sure if wiring is already there, but I thought TCS was standard on all +2002 ponies.

yea, sorry fellas, i wrote the wrong thing.. i meant traction control heh...

but yea, my 04 GT has the 3 buttons there... but the middle button is void... there is nothing there but a dead black button with nothing connected to it.

the weird thing, my window sticker for the car says that traction control is included on my package... i got the premium GT, fully loaded with everything, but this button... i honestly dont get it

Only standard on PREMIUM package GTs. On the Deluxe GTs they were an option.

If you know how to drive your Stang, the only time you'll ever miss TC is on ice.

I would take it back to the dealer and say WTF is this,, you are ripping me off!! tell them to sort it out you paid for something you didn't get!

More for the ABS then the TCS.

i'm pretty much sure i have traction control though, when i try to do a burnout it stalls...

if i didnt have it, i should be able to...

my issue is i can't turn it off, and i want to go to the track soon...but wont have a way to heat up my drag radials...

Dude, something is majorly wrong if you have ABS/TC but can't defeat the TC. Does a green wheel-looking light come on in your guage cluster when you try to do a burnout? & is your car an A4 or M5?

By 2004, ABS/TC was an option on all GTs. The victim of cost-cutting.

It was only standard on the Mach 1.

Check out the 2004 Ordering Guide.

That might be worth while. I believe it is rather easy for the dealer to check to see if the car was ordered/built with the ABS/TC option or not.

Yeah.. check for a green light that looks like a wheel on your cluster when you do your burnout. If that comes up then that's the TC kicking in. TC is a waste imo, and if you want to turn it off and for some reason your button is missing you could get a hand held tuner and get it tuned off.

trust me you get a much better Mustang without ABS and traction control. my 04 is delete of these too and I absolutely love it! no need to shut TC off everytime you get in the car or fix it with a chip. the brakes are fine in the car without the ABS... you will skid if you lock them up hard but if you've driven disc brakes cars in the past its no different. add the fact that your car is lighter without all the ABS BS in it and that just makes it all sweeter!

Yea, but ABS is a must on any sports car, really for insurance purposes!

The insurance company will see you are much higher risk because you don't have this options and if you have deleted yours and not told your insurance company then in the event of an accident they will most likely pay you sweet FA

Why on earth would want to delete the ABS anyway? TCS I can understand.

well in my case my car was not optioned with either the ABS or TC and I was very happy about that. after driving a few cars with TC and forgetting to turn it off I was happy to see it be an option in 04. I have owned several power disc non ABS cars and actually prefer it.

insurance wise it doesn't affect my plan in any way. insurance is based on year of vehicle, driver record, and age.

You are correct there are many factors that make up your insurance.

But the bigest is the type of car that makes the most difference to your insurance!
example the difference between a 03 GT Coupe (G18) and 03 Vert is like 6 groups higher mine is group (G24) and they only go up to (G26).
