Would a traction-lok unit from an 01 GT fit my 97 cobra?

Also, does anyone know if/where I could buy just a spider gear set. I have looked and looked and I cannot find them, that's why I am looking into buying a whole traction-lok unit. Thanks!

I believe as long as the 01 GT has a 28 spline carrier, which I think it does, it should work just fine in your Cobra...

Try the dealer for the case internals or a drivetrain shop. Any 8.8 carrier will work as long as it has the right spline count. I have a 2004 Cobra 31 spline in my '98.

Might be a good time to upgrade to 31 splines, axles are only 250-300 bucks more and the labor is the same.

I seriously considered going with a 31 spline, but from what I've read unless I have or plan to have 450+hp (or use drag radials) its not worth it. I figure at best my car will have 350-400hp and I don't believe I will ever invest in DRs. Thanks for the input guys!

There have been cases where bolt on 5.0's have broken the stock 28 spline axles. I have seen a aftermarket 28 spline axle bread too, and was only pushing a little over 400 hp. Most have were running Et streets or drag radials launching over 4k rpms. If you have to replace the trac-lok and spider gears, might as well upgrade to 31 spline and get the axles, not that much more $$ and worth it.
You say no drag radials now, just wait till you go to the track and spin through 3 rd gear and get crappy times all because you were on street tires with 350 - 400 hp.
And the newer trac-lok will fit your cobra
