How much would a tranny that is going out affect the performance of a car? I have a car mustang II that needs a new tranny because second gear is going out and I was wondering how much that would hurt the performance. I dont know how much power my cars putting out but it has holley Weiand intake(WND-8011), edelbrock 600 cfm carbuerator I think a 262 cam and I dont know what it has for heads but I figure it should be cranking out around 300 hp or more but it sure as hell doesnt feel like. It goes 0 to 60 in like 10 seconds for crying out loud what the hell is holding it back I can't figure it out you thank maybe the suspension would hurt it any help would be great thanks.

Uh well...I'd hate to burst your bubble but i highly doubt you have 300hp. I'd say more like 200 hp and that's being awful generous. You're car may be pretty torqey though, which could give it that 300hp like feel on a takeoff. But you were pretty vauge on you engine spces aswell.
Your tranny could be slipping (didn't state if it was an automatic or not) which would be a huge factor in the engine's performance. And if it's a stick, a worn out clutch will do the same thing. Other areas would be the exhaust system... not a single 300hp engine will breathe through a stock Mustang II exhaust system. Other smaller variables could be how well the engine is tuned too. There's alot of different reasons or possibilities that could exist and quite possible more than one causing the problem. You'll just have to weed through them one at a time starting witht he easy stuff.

Have you run any 1/4 mile times? If so what are your 60 ft times? and 1/4 ET? A rough avg of hp can be determined from 1/4 mile acceleration and weight of the car. I dont think your tranny would effect it unless it was REAl bad. From your engine specs I agree w/ Dano. Look at it this way, a newer stang has a rated 260 HP from the 4.6 V-8. It rips down a 1/4 mile in 13.5 sec. or so at around 100 MPh or so. So figure 0-60 in 7 seconds or so (off the top of my head) So your engine just needs some more ooomph, Heads and bigger cam, exhaust and more cam

Ok thanks appreciate the info, umm it does have an exhaust but I dont know how much its helping the car it might be hurting it if any because the guy made hisself and it sounds really good but he has I think 2" stainless steel running from the exhaust manifold straight to the front of the rear axle then this looks like it kills it because it looks like it goes down to 1.5" piping that bends and twirls all over the place to get over and around the axle. And I heard that if you bend it more then 90 degrees it kills alot of power. Which leaves me at a new question what do you guys do for an exhaust I can't find any place that makes and exhaust system. I just found my digital camera so I'm going to try and take some pics. To show you guys my frustration. thanks let me know what you think.

Sounds pretty damn good Z! I noticed you were commenting on how you wanted it a little more 'throaty' sounding. You'll probably have to go to a 'packed' muff like a Dynomax Super Turbo, or a Borla, or Edelbrock etc... the fully welded muff is always kinda "tinny" sounding, but that's what you give up to get a long lasting muff. My Ranchero had the same cam and combo as you have but I had glasspacks and then regular turbos on it. Witht he new engine I plan on putting a pair of Flowtech afterburners on it.

BTW- I stll like the way they ran the pipes out the rear of your car. I think I'm gonna do that with the 2.5" pipe on my Fastback. Not reaaly fond of the 240Z look on mine.
