I've had an intermittent problem w/ my AOD not shifting out of 1st gear since I got it rebuilt. The first two times it fixed itself within the first 50 feet to the first few miles. Today it won't fix itself at all. It might fix itself again this time, but I'm sick of dealing with it.
Anyone else had this problem?
Anyway, I'm looking into just getting an aftermarket VB and being done with it.
The Lentech Street Cruiser is 259, and the PA and TCI VB's are about 220.

Has anyone had any experience with any of these or have a preference between one or the others?
I can't afford a manual style w/ OD delete, so it's not an option, and who knows, it might fix itself tomorrow.
but any opinions would be great!
Thanks,
Jeremy

When I installed my transgo shift kit it wouldn't shift out of first. I tried just about everything to fix it because I thought it was myself, maybe installing it wrong. Well it wasn't. I bought a new valve body, new filter, gasket, tried reinstalling it twice and still no. So I just swapped to a 5 speed and I couldn't be happier than ever. If you do get an aftermarket valvebody, I recommend art carr, lentech, or tci.

yeah, art carr is most expensive, lentech is 2nd, and TCI and PA performance both are tied for least expensive.
Any opinions between the three?

This would be cheaper and more fun IMO.

cheaper than $200?
Tell me where you get your parts and consider it done
I'm just looking for a new valvebody, not the whole tranny

My bad, i though you meant an entire trans, but i do know that if you use a manual valve body you will soon need a trans so not much difference.

I've known about 1/2 a dozen guys that used a manual valve body on their car, not one auto trans made it the next 6 months.

Sounds like the governer is hanging. Also make sure you the TV cable is hooked up or you will fry the tranny because the cable controls pressure in the tranny. Did you flush the cooling lines before you installed the new one. I have also seen the governer housing itself is bad.Pull the driveshaft out and the tailhousing off and the governer is right there. Check that out.

It cost me $1200 for the aod to t5 swap. I got the tranny, bell, pedal assembly, and dust shield off ebay, everything else was new.
The price to rebuild an aod is around $1000 so your better off doing the swap.

What EXACTLY is involved in taking the tailhousing and driveshaft off?
I'd rather try that than drop the car off at the shop all day tom.
Thanks

Hi, I'm having similar problems. I installed my transgo HP kit a couple weeks ago and I've been at school so I've only been working on it on the weekends but it won't shift into third at all. It shifted fine before the install and it was rebuilt within the last year. I don't have any idea what is wrong with the kit because i'm pretty sure I installed it correctly. I would also be interested in how to access the governor. I've had the driveshaft off but I didn't know that you could access the tailshaft. A 5-speed is starting to look pretty appealing lol.

ok, so appaently, it shifts out of 1st gear, but i wouldn't even say "shifts", more like "slips", cuz you can't tell when. But if you hold it in first, it holds first. Then if you put it in D, it will rev all the way to 4500-5500 before it catches and starts to move.
Does this still sound like a governor prob., or VB prob.?
The fluid is not burnt or brown.
Any ideas?

well, I went to the Baumann site and searched Tech FAQ's.
They had three FAQ's that fit my car's symptom's EXACTLY.
Either:
1. TV Valve stuck in high pressure position
2. Governor stuck
3. 1-2 valve stuck.

So hopefully this is not as big of a problem as I thought it was, and hopefully I didn't destroy too much driving it to work!!!
I'll post back and let you guys know when I hear something back.
Thanks for all the input !
