transmision problem

i dont think that would do it...check your neutral safety switch....i think its at the top of the clutch pedal but the quadrant. see it its broken or just pushed all the way in and stuck

Your car could have been an aod converted to a 5 speed. Look at the clutch pedal, there should be two different wires plugged in, if there is not, look for those wires, they should be up near the pedal taped up from the factory, untape them, plug them in.

The only connection on the tranny is the reverse-sensing switch which obviously will light up the reverse tail lamps one activated. The switch that allows the car to start with the clutch engaged only is indeed the neutral-sensing switch located at the top of the clutch pedal. It acts as an off/on switch and once activated, it completes the starting the circuit and allows the car to turn over. The guy probably decied to hot wire the thing by taking the two wires for the switch and twisting them together - this will give you the same effect but minus having the depress the clutch pedal. Look for another sensing switch for down there or figure out what he has done to it

you're kidding right??? Some of the stuff people say on this site blows me away.

sorry man, flame me too if you must. by-passing the clutch safety switch is a bad safety issue. Anybody who drives your car is not going to be as anal as you about remembering there is not clutch neutral safety switch. What if it hits a small child directly in front of your car??

It's good to see that there are still folks out there that always obey the posted speed limit, use their turn signals as required and always come to a complete stop at every stop sign. And who would never, ever think of doing a burnout on the street.

Nobody else drives my car, so that's not an issue. Put a cage in your car and see just how handy it is every time you want to start the car or bump the motor in the garage.

Why do you think that switch was first installed? Because some idiot forgot that they had a manual transmission and probably did cause an accident when they started it in gear. 'OOPS, I forgot the transmission needs to be disengaged to start the car'. Then some other idiot decided that it was the auto manufacturer's responsibility and so they hired some lawyers to sue the automaker.

Very much like those that are filing against gunmakers and holding them accountable for what people are doing with their guns. So now we'll have fingerprint trigger locks. Very handy for home defense. 'Excuse me sir, could you please step back into the hallway while I try to undo this trigger lock in the dark?'

It all comes back to responsibility. Nobody wants to be responsible. It's always somebody else's fault. I'm very much from the old school in this area. I certainly don't mind accepting the responsibility for the things I do.
