My 97' has 123K and the transmission (automatic) is starting to slip more and more every day. I am thinking on rebuilding the transmission...o is it better to just get a new one?
If I decide to get a new one, what should I look for? What type or specification? (I just want a stock automatic).

Thanks guys!

This may sound dumb, but its a simple suggestion because I'm not sure of the extent of the problem. But you may want to try changing the fluid and/or just putting a bottle of K&W TransX. I had a lot of miles on one of my older cars, and the tranny was slipping BAD. I put a can of this in and it helped clean up the shifts

If nothing else, it might give you a bit more time before you gotta replace/rebuild it.

May or may not be a good idea, but it is a cheap one.

Not worth swapping to a 5 speed. Too much time money and effort.

If your that concerned with it, my suggestion would be to get it rebuilt. At least that way you have some sort of warranty if it does the same thing again. But the dowside is that you will definitely be paying for it.

Otherwise, find a local wrecker and see if you can find a used one. They're not normally that hard to change out. I just did one on a 94, took me the better part of an afternoon.
