transmission fluid help

Hey, I just put the tramsmission (T5) in the car, and forgot to fill it up first, I was wondering what the best?easiest way to fill it is.

I was also wondering if it is safe to fill it from where the shifter bolts in, or if i am better using a pump to pump the fluid in.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

you can remove the shifter and fill from there, but the easiest thing to do is to go to autozone and get one of the push style pumps...... they are only 6$....... lots easier and good for rears, trannys, etc.....

remove the top plug with the car level, fill until it barely seeps out the top plug, then you are done. You did put regular ATF in it right?

easiest way is thru the shifter. Remove the shifter, and just pour 3 qts of ATF in there. Its faster, and more comfortable, heh.

The other way is getting under the car and using a small hose/pump and fill thru the filler plug. But this takes longer, and laying in that position gave me a few neck cramps, ,lol.

whichever you prefer.

i would race ya, if you prefer to debate which is faster..........we can.....

the pump holds 1 quart you fill it unscrew it and fill it again doe this three time, i have a longer hose all you have to do is remove the drain plug wait on it to drain, replace. remove the upper, push in three quarts(don't have to do anything other than kneel down), put the plug back in and go for a drive..........

your way, remove

shifter knob
shifter boot
lower shift boot
shifter handle
shifter

clean silicone, resilicone, replace shifter, lower shift boot, shifter handle, upper shift boot, shifter knob.......

serious which is quicker and easier....... but i know opinions are like a$$holes everyone has one......

thanks guys. I think Im going to just fill it through the shifter< since I havnt installed the shifter yet.

it is going to be sooo wierd driving this car again. I havnt driven it in 5 years. In 2000 I built it as a race car, and made a few dyno pulls, and had a few races, then I scared myself with it and sold the drivetrain. I just recently picked up a totalled 1995 cobra, and swapped the entire drivetrain. It should be a fun little daily driver.

Since you have to loosen the fill plug to get the proper amount of fluid in the transmission, use that to fill it.

Just remove the shift knob, then the plastic trom piece that goes around it. Leave the shifter in place. Then get a funnel with a 2 ft tube attached to it, fish the tube through to the trans fill hole, stick it in, and then you can fill it inside the car. Once it starts to spill out (appx 2.5qts), you are done. Put some thread sealer on the plug and install. Done
