i think thats fairly common on the AODE, AODE and AOD are different trannys, you have the AODE/4R70W. as long as you keep the fluid flushed regularly and change the filter with the fluid that tranny should last 300k+ miles.

is it a clunk in the tranny for sure, or could it be the tranny clunking against something else?????

it sounds kinda like the tranny mounts to me. for 2 different reasons

1 - doing it at the track, meaning it is having more tq put to it than normal, which puts more stress on things to move under hard driving

2 - it does it going around corners, if the mounts are bad it won't stay in place & "could" clunk against the car.

this is just what i noticed by reading it, it could be something completely different, but i would start by looking at the tranny mounts

I would have to agree with c2see21, it sounds like a mount problem. I should be easy to check. You can look at it to see if it is broken or damaged. Also you can rock the tranny and see how much movement the mount allows as well as listen for noises.
