well my auto in my 84 is on its last leg and i need to either get a new tranny or get this one rebuilt this is a project car when i get done w/it it will prolly have 350hp at most so i dont need a wild transmission a local mustang shop (Delk Performance) will rebuild it for $650 w/stock parts back he said i could pay a little more if there were some performance parts i wanted in it.....is that a good price and what are some parts to help out a auto transmission i dont know much about them like what does a shift kit do other than firm u shifts etc... thanks for the help

have them put red high performance clutches and kevlar bands in it. tell them to put a shift kit in it and put a a 2800-3k stall in it and you will love it. you could also try to find a hardened input shaft and shell. i think art carr sells them. thats about all. you might be better off taking it to a tranny shop like a cottman transmission but call around and ask to talk to the builder and see what he can do. our builder does his own shift kits and can make a tranny shift like no other.

I personally wouldn't take ANYTHING to any Cottman trans shop, we had one here in town last year, they opened in early March and were out of buss. in 8 months!!!! I could tell you alot of horror stories from that place. Their Master Trans tech was a Joke. But thats just my exp. with them, yours may be different.

yeah, i know they can all be different. our builder has been building for 25 years and used to own his own performance trans shop. but yes....you should be very wary of anyone who claims they can do good trans work. its not as easy as everyone makes it out to be

Cool. Look into Lentech's stuff. They have some really nice valve bodies and other stuff. My buddy had one of their valve bodies in his stock AOD, and it turned it into a pretty sick tranny. Might have shifted a little too hard for daily driving though, it got a little annoying after a while.
