trickflow heads?

what do you all think of them?

I was going to go with just roller rockers on the stock heads, But I dont agree with the machinist that I know(used to be my friend) and he wanted to charge me 800 bucks for springs and for the head work(studs and surface) He didnt even give me an estamate until today, and he has had the heads for over a week and already put the studs in :bang: dont know what to do! I told him I would pay for the machine work that he had already done(about 100 bucks) and he told me that I owed him 300 bucks. I dont think so! He also had ordered me gaskets, and what not, and I told him I would take those too. He flipped out saying he was just going to send them all back RAWR

All this from a guy that told me that I shouldnt go with aluminum heads grrr

ok enough ranting, I want the twisted wedge heads and I already have the 1.7 trickflow roller rockers what have you heard about them? any help would be great :D

I don't know for sure. .539 on a .540 max is pushing it. Should be ok as long as you know for SURE that your only at .539 and no higher than .540
If your that worried, you could always replace the valve springs.
 
The twisted wedge always test right at the top of the the HP makers and have come a long way since their introduction. The older versions were of much lower quality and had problems with valve guides. The newer 2.02 intake valve ones are quite nice and make some great power. I have a set I got brand new for free that I am looking forward to trying out. For the price difference I don't think the AFRs are worth it unless you have the budget.
 
I would have to agree with Ronstang about the quality of the heads. The twisted wedge or AFRs would be my top choice on my engine whenever the budget allows me to do so.

Ronstang, how the hell did you get a set of twisted wedge heads for free? :scratch:

It is pretty mild for me at least =) but there is a list below

all said and done with everything including valve covers and rockers will cost me about 1700 and if i were going to machine the heads it would be like 1300

what do you think it will do for the value of the car?

My lil 289 has 54cc combustion chambers right? is that going to be a problem going to 61cc? will that lower my compression

forgive me im a noob with the fords ha

How did I get a pair for free? It was rather simple. A kid in my neighborhood built up a 1970 Torino GT with a brand new engine/tranny and couldn't drive it because of totally rotten brakes and his mom would not let him drive it. He started it up and broke in the engine and then it just sat for a couple of years. He decided he wanted a boat and his mom told him to sell the car. I bought it for $1000. Sold the tranny and carb and intake that day for $500. Sold the shortblock for $500 and ended up with a brand new set of heads that had just been bolted down and run for about an hour or so for free...everything inside this engine still had assembly lube on it'! I also have the brand new FRPP roller rockers and brand new Flowmasters. I still have sheetmetal and misc to get rid of so I acutally got paid to take the stuff.
 
Sorry dude, those heads are going on my Fastback. I am building it on the el cheapo concept.....I buy almost nothing for the car....I barter, trade, or do work for others for the parts I need. My entire EFI drivetrain including GT-40 intake all the way to the Versaille rearend is going to cost me a set of gaskets, rings, and bearings. The rest I got for NADA....well I did a lot of work building a buddy a race car and got evey part we took off his car that I wanted down to the 150 mile old FRPP SFI balancer and SFI flywheel. I even have an "N" carrier posi with brand new 3.70 gears I got from another buddy for helping him. This car will be one of the cheapest to build car with the most goodies I know of.
