Installing a trickflow street intake this weekend, any tips? Also installing FMS 65mm TB, 76mm C&L mass air,aeromotive fuel pressure reg.,and fuel psi gauge.
Use silicone on the ends of the lifter valleys. Yoo know those to little end gaskets. Sometimes they are cork or rubber. They tend to slip out of place when you tighten the lower down. Just use a little silicone and let it harden up before you do any tightning down. This will ensure no oil leaks. Save you from ripping it all back apart.
Make sure you label what vaccum hose goes where they are in a different location than the stock intake. Dont go over 25 ft/lbs on the lower and 20 on the upper.

Its not that hard just take your time and dont lose anything. Label all your vaccum hoses and for gods sake dont break any bolts off. Use all new gaskets. I recommend new vaccuum hoses also. They are cheap at any auto store. Drain a few liters of coolant out of the radiator so you keep everything up top clean when you take it apart. You can reu-use the coolant. Make sure install the thermostat back in the correct way. Dont let any debris fall into the lifter valley. Get a new PCV valve and screen for that new intake.
Label everything, u will thank your self when ur putting everything back together later. Plus with the silicone sealent, make sure that it drys for a good 24 hrs, before starting that car, i made that mistake and started it up aright after everything was installed and blew out some of the silicone and ended up with an oil leak.
Make sure you put a small amount of silicone around the water jackets to help seal them against the intake gasket/intake. Torque the intake bolts down in the correct sequence.
I'd suggest putting in a new hi-flow 180 degreee thermo, new coolant and change the oil after you install the intake to make sure you get any coolant that went in the motor out. You need to drain the coolant down lower the intake before you take it apart.
I am probably stupid for saying ths but install the fuel pressure regulator with the rails off the motor it will be much easier than doing it on the car you probably already knew that but I figured it was worth mentioning, also I needed two sets of valley gaskets and silicon when I installed my trick flow intake for some reason there was a big space when I put the lower intake on the heads and block you probably will not need them but if you run into the same problem thats what I did to fix it and to this day it still doesn't leak. i second what mike keirstead said, do not let any debris or gasket materail get in the lifter valley or valves. you may be able to get one of those preformed plastic trays that fit down in there. that would be a good idea. atleast stuff some rags in holes. i would also drain and refill your oil and coolant to be on the safe side.
you may also run into clearence problems with the EGR valve. i heard people say you can avoid that by installing one of those spacers between the upper and lower intake. i just beat mine up pretty good with a hammer to make it fit, but that may effect the operation of it. atleast all i have is a visual emissions inspection.
I'm trying to install a trick flow upper intake on my 1993 but I do not know where the Vacuum hoses go. The original intake was a Edelbrock intake. I've tried looking it up but nothing seems to be very descriptive.
