I have just changed rear valance panel in order to get GT exhaust fit. However, I wonder if trumpet tips have any pro/cons compared to straight pipe? Do the increase noise? Block HP? Generate sound?

The deflectors on some repros aren't stamped deep enough, they should be at a 45° angle. This can easily be fixed with a longnose pliers. Making sure this is right keeps them from causing back pressure.`
They don't make the exhaust louder, if anything, a little quieter.
They do add one more thing to adjust.
They are often installed on the wrong side by people unfamiliar with them. The RH extension should be mounted with the S tube perfectly vertical, and the louvers level. The LH extension should be mounted with the S tube jogging to the right, again with the louvers level. This is because the gas tank is not centered.
These are often installed protruding too far, or not enough. Proper location is with the weld between the stainless and the S tube directly above the nut on the bottom-center of the trim ring.
These tips are the only feature that survived from the original Mustang prototype to the production model.
sorry, I was not clear: how much distance from tip of trumpet to top of ring? Damned if I know. Ford specified "centered within 3/16". It's easy to do that. I'll try to measure one tomorrow if you really need a number.
(seen from side). How far out should trumpets go? As seen from the side, the weld attaching the stainless flare to the steel tube should be directly above the nut at the bottom of the trim ring.
