I am taking my car to the dealership tomorrow morning for this TSB:

TSB 05-15-8
TICKING AND/OR KNOCKING NOISE FROM ENGINE—4.6L/5.4L 3V

I was wondering if anyone could provide me with some information on what is causing this. I recently (within the last 2 weeks) have started hearing this ticking noice coming from the engine bay. At first I thought it was an exhaust leak because it kind of sounds like that from inside the car. I didn't think too much of it because I had already ordered headers. Well anyway, I put on my jba long tube headers and off road h-pipe 5 days ago and then all of a sudden 2 days ago the noise just all of a sudden became much louder. I took it back to the shop that did the install for me (thinking it was a leak) and the guy just looked at me and said it's not a leak, do you still have warranty on your car? :Damnit: The noise is coming from the passenger side head, and it's a real loud ticking/tapping noise, and you can hear it a lot better if you take the oil cap off and just listen. I don't see any way possible headers could have caused this? Especially since I was hearing something before I put them on. I guess what I'm asking is, what could have caused this? I haven't driven the car any harder than I have in the last 10 months that I've owned it. I'm just hoping the dealership doesn't hassle me. And to add insult to injury my transmission light came on this morning so now my baby stays parked until tomorrow morning. crapola
Thanks in advance

p.s.
In case it helps, here are my mods:
K&N cold air intake
4.10 gears
JBA LT headers w/off road h pipe
No tune

5600 miles and same thing here. There has always been

a mild ticking which was noted by one of the TSB's saying some tapping noise is normal and should not be of concern especially if heard from outside the car and coming around the wheel wells. But I know that is NOT what you are talking about as my car did exactly what yours is doing.

I thought I had broken a valve spring or the like in the right side head. I shut off the engine and when I restarted it the noise went away for another mile or so before starting up again. So I took it into the dealer where of course the noise was not present. Good news is they did kinda-of sort-of believe me and kept the car. A couple of days later I had to go in and show them my receipts for oil changes done to date. Luckily I had done three, 1200 miles, 2600 miles, and again at 5000 miles using the correct 5-20W 50/50 blend oil. Ford was supposed to send new parts for the inside of the right side head but to date they have not arrived. That was two weeks ago and last Friday they were still unsure when the parts would arrive. The downside, I could drive it against their advise and if the engine went, it went and they said they would not be responsible as they warned against driving the car as is...... great..... ;( ohhhhhhhhhh and there was another 05 GT there, in their shop the same day I brought mine in for the same noise. He left his too and it's still there alongside mine.....................

it says there are a few things to check. the most important thing that could be wrong is the VCT cam phaser. if this is your case, i pray that you find a GOOD tech. if they mess up one thing, there goes your motor. if the timing chain is off at all, kiss it good by........

Well just got the good news/bad news call from the dealer. The good news: ALL of the parts should be at the dealer by 4 p.m. today. The bad news: ALL of the parts included new pistons, internals for the heads, valves, springs etc, but first the heads will have to go for service to another shop which takes another 2-4 days, then of course there's the reassembly time and oh yes, we don't work next Thursday or Friday :) So expect your 05 GT with 5800 miles on it and a freshly rebuilt engine back on or around Monday 11-28 or maybe even Tuesday 11-29. Car went in on 10-28.

Is it me or is this wrong !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!????????

Follow up" Just got off the phone with Ford. There is a known problem that they are working on BUT BUT BUT>
all Ford will authorize is to repair/rebuild the engine and not a new replacement engine regardless of the very few miles on the car. Not fair. You pay for a new car/engine and get a rebuilt engine instead.....
