I'm to the point when my car needs a tune. I can take it to a shop for a one time tune that will cost $450-$600. So it's a brain dead decision to buy my own that comes with three tunes and a lifetime of tunes. But I'm finding programmers and chips. Do I need to buy both or just one? I use my car as a daily driver/family car. But I always seem to get in a race, so having the freedom to switch back and forth is a necessity. Any input on brands?

First off you need to tell us what mods you have???? SCT Bama Tunes are very good for bolt on cars! Also we don't condone street racing on these boards. Take it to the track.

You only need a chip or a flasher not both , flasher cost more but will read OBD2 codes , datalogs and will allow you to receive email tunes , a person by someone in person will usually get you a little extra power , Free tunes thing is a gimmick to get you to buy more bolt ons and for anything other than bolt ons they will send you to a local tuner for a dyno tune anyway , and when you show up later at the local guy when you either decide you want that extra 5-10 HP or you have changed something not supported by the other guys free tunes then hes gonna charge you more since you didn't come to him in the first place ...

Peace out dude! I drive from the country to the city on I-70 and when I line up with a tuner or vise versa we hammer it for a short amount of time. If we were to get stopped by a highway patrol there are stipulations to deal with us. I'm 45 freaking years old and don't need some self rightous redneck telling me not to street race or how to drive. I'm sure I can find another forum out there that is less critical and judgemental. Peace out

Your not making much since, you talk about free tunes being some kind of scam but your avator is in support of SCT Tuners, and your signature says that your a certified SCT Tuner and so on. So whats the deal?

Wow, you come on here looking for advice. You should be lucky they didn't laugh at you with your "both" comment in regards to having a chip and a tuner. Also, if you use your car as a family car AND you race ppl in it you should be ashamed of yourself.

and you never just find yourself in a race unless you go out looking for one. You could be the bigger man and just let it go. Just saying I'm 25 and I figured that out 9 years ago...

I am an SCT dealer and I support SCT fully , I am telling you to check with your local SCT dealers that you can find on sctflash.com on the dealer locater , you just type in the zip code and it will show you who is close to you that is also an SCT dealer , I am saying beware of some places that tell you they offer free tunes for life and promise you 30 plus HP gains etc.

Your local SCT dealer might be a little more cost up front but will net you more power and he will be more willing to help you out in the future if you change things up more.

Do you have a dyno tuner in mind yet? I would make sure you use the brand that your local dyno guy is going to be familar with to get the best results.

Personally I have had better luck with the SCT X3, but if your looking for a non custom device you buy retail will need the SF3. Id talk to your dyno guy before making any decisions...

Im not anti Diablo, I run one on my 2002 F350 Diesel, but with my tuning expierence on the Mustangs I use SCT exclusive, eith chip or X3.

Im going to quote myself from your other thread.... I think this point is the most important, if you dont have a tuner in mind follow the advice from 2002BLGT. Im not a big mail order tune guy since the few I have delt with were nothing but an issue and my customer was shocked they had to pay for me to re-tune them on the dyno to get the car to run right. One thing to remember is if you go with a chip your local tuner will not be able to read the tune so it will need to be started from scratch anyways...

My $.02
