Tuner?

Im confused on what to do I have 4.10's and would like to calibrate the speedomiter and tach. Would a tuner like the diablo sport do that or do I need a speedcalibrator? I also am wondering if a tuner would add any horse power to my car? I have a 1996 Gt 5spd. with H-pipe, cat-back, fenderwall intake, plugs and wires, those are the only power adders I have but I also have the 4.10's, King Cobra clutch etc.. Would the tuner be a smart move for me? My car has 118k miles on it but still runs strong.

If you're goin to get more mods any time soon I would get the programmer. If not get it tuned on the dyno.

Either SCT or Diablosport will let you adjust your gear ratio.

I just got the Diablosport and its easy enough for a 5 year old to use. I didnt notice any big gain power wise but I havnt messed with it yet.

A Diablo or SCT flash tuner might typically get you an additional 10-12 HP. They are a worthwhile investment since, in addition to tuning they can also adjust your speedometer/odometer for rear gear changes, datalog engine performance parameters, read/clear DTC's, etc.

I would definatley buy one. I have an SCT and love it. Just go with what ever your tuner uses.

It looks like it will be my next purchase. But I only plan to tune it myself unless I get more mods then I will get it dyno tuned.

Dyno information is still very useful though to see what effect your tunes are having, i.e. are they helping or hurting performance. Also, you need wideband O2 datalogging capability (readily available from several vendors) to properly create your own tunes.

On a '96 you need a SpeedCal - an XCal 2 or Predator will NOT allow you to adjust the speedo. That started in '99.

We do 'email' tunes - we sell you a base unit with tunes on it - then datalog it and email us the results. We then send you an updated tune via email. This goes on until it's right. We've tuned cars all over the world like this. Ema.il me@[email protected] if you need details

woah woah guys he's got a 96GT a tuner won't change his speedo for the new gear ratio. The only things that work are a new speedo gear or a speedcal (Recommended). You could still get a tuner for leaking those few extra ponies out but it wouldn't allow you to adjust your speedo.

It might cost you about a grand, but you can make tunes over and over again versus one tune on the dyno that might cost $500.

I'm in favor of that myself, but finding places to run on the street at WOT can be a challenge in some cities.
