Turbo Cars

Wow some general nothingness in response to your question here...

I think too many people are afraid to refer to other sites around here. Do a search for turbo and mustangs in google and see what you come up with :nice:

How come when someone posts to check out the turboforums its deleted? I can think of about 5 people in 5.0 talk with turbo cars including myself. Everyone on that site has a turbo and over half are mustangs. Why the hell wouldn't we point someone in the correct direction???

people dont sell projects b/c everything is working great like they say in the ad

Although that may be true in a lot of the cases, that's a pretty wide brush you're using to generalize all of them.

My car for example has been heavily modified (and by heavily modified, I mean a lot of the factory components have been changed out or upgraded in favor of better ones...not necessarily because its an overly “wild” combination of parts) and it runs flawlessly...better than it did stock as a matter of fact.

But like many here, I've grown used to…dare I say bored with my current endeavors (the same way I did with the last Fox body I had before it) and am now wanting to start over again and focus my efforts else ware.

It has nothing what so ever to do with getting in over my head, or being plagued with problematic "mechanical gremlins" that are forcing me to give up on it. Its just like playing your favorite video game. You can only reach the end of the level so many times before your eventually bored and want to try something different.

I would have no problem what so ever picking up someone else’s project and saving myself a pile of money and effort in the process providing I deemed the work put into it competent, or acceptable and adequate financial compensation could be agreed upon by both parties.

I hear you on that, some very valid points. When I got done with my last string of mods I sat back and said.."there, all done. I am NEVER selling." Now a year or two have passed and I am starting to think about getting the Saleen I have always wanted... ugh..

Thats a good size one deff easy low 9 sec capable for sure. Sounds like a nasty car. Throw the flows out though those are going to kill the power. Turbo's like as little backpressure as possible. Maybe put 1 bullet somewheres in there or just open downpipe.

I really think you should consider sitting down and doing a few months worth of research and reading on Turbocharged Mustangs before plunking down the cash blindly the way you seem to be ready to. And joining an internet site and starting one newbie thread asking peoples opinion on the subject does not constitute as research. Everyone is going to have a different opinion on the subject and all will claim to know what they're talking about. Quite frankly, unless you have a completely disposable income that you can pay someone to do the work for you…or you know how to build/rebuild, work on and maintain a turbo car, you have no business owning one.

Contrary to what many will have you believe, turbo cars are not maintenance free. They wear out parts just as fast, if not faster than a stock car and have their quirks and headaches along the way just like any other. Not to mention their own little demons to go along with them. They can be finicky depending on the day of the week or the weather in the sky and they’ll nickel and time you to death if you’re not careful.

Jumping into on just for the sake of doing so is a bad idea IMO. In the end, you're the one parting with the money that has to drive and live with it….not the guy on the other end of some internet forum that lives several hundred miles away, who is telling you to go for broke!

What he said. Easy low 9 sec car, maybe even high 8s if you're brave with the boost level. Flows can go in the garbage, that's worth 50+ rwhp on a turbo car. Just like Bentley said, use a race bullet or preferably nothing. Another thing that will likely end up trash is the c4. Turbo cars tend to spend a lot of time on the trans brake, which will kill a c4 very very quickly. Might not be that much of a problem because it's a healthy stroker motor behind a not so big turbo so it should spool pretty quickly on the brake. Might as well save up for a TH400 though, it will laugh and stick its tounge out at the trans brake button.

While it does seem like he found a good car, this is good advice. Which is EXACTLY why I and others tried to help him out and point him towards an almost strictly TURBO website, but apparently that wasn't allowed. I can say Bentley and I have had our fair share of turbo experience and learned a lot over the past couple years, and there has been no bigger help than that website.

Also very true. They are about as far from maintenance free as it gets. Eventually you will get the combo down, but as many joke about they tend to spend a large part of their first seasons on jack stands.

They can be VERY picky about weather. I've personally seen one go one full second quicker at the track from a drop in temperature.

I'm not going to blindly drop $20 g's on a turbo car. I do and could afford to have someone tune and fix it for me. I was just asking some questions. Sorry if I posted in the wrong section but I don't need to be bombarded with comment that insinuate I'm an idiot. I thought thats what this forum is for asking questions and getting advice from other people. I didn't mean to offend anyone....

Thats what I want, opinions and advice, thats all. Thanks

No offence taken. I just don't want to see a novice get in over his head. You yourself stated you knew nothing about Turbo Mustangs and I was merely trying to lay out all of the variables you might encounter taking on a project like this. If I’ve hit a bit of a nerve by doing so, I apologize....but I’d rather you come off a little insulted and obtain a cautious perspective than jump into this with a carefree attitude and your eyes wide shut and in the end, end up with more than you bargained for. :)

No appology needed, thats what I want honest advice. When it comes to power adders, I am a novice. Also I appreciate your concern, says alot about your character trying to keep someone from getting in over their head. Not wanting someone to get burned.....Thanks

Just know that with power adders, whatever problems your current setup has are going to be magnified by 10x.

If you have parts that are machined out of tolerance it can sometimes get by on a mild N/A motor, but once it see's boost forget about it.

You picked a real good time to buy a car though, you can take advantage of someone being hard up for cash and get a car/truck for nothing. You just have to do your homework, nobody is trying to say your stupid either, there is just a TON of things to know when turbocharging a car. Also this is not the forum for turbo mustangs, there are a few guys on here with misconceptions about turbos and post with enough conviction that some people believe what they are writing.

What exactly do you want from the car? 1/4 mile? street cruiser? how fast do you wanna go? does it bother you to climb over a rollbar when getting into a car?
