So i was getting ready to get new pads for my rear discs, and i'm thinking that my rear end is from a turbo coupe because it also has 3.55 gears on it, along with the 4 lug discs. However, i bought this car from a dealer about 2 months ago, and i had a bent axle. So i brought it back in to them, and he put in an axle from a mustang. I heard that the turbo coupe axles are a little longer than the mustang ones. I guess i have my right side as a turbo coupe axle and my left side as a mustang axle. Is this ok ? what could this lead to ?

Well, they could have simply pulled the 28 spline mustang axle and inserted it into the TC rear during the swap. This does work. It is only the actual axle itself that is longer, not the axle tubing or anything else. I cannot believe a dealer would be so careless as to install nonmatching axles.

Plus, you could be looking at an mc-2300c kit. That looks like 4 lug TC brakes. I have this kit myself.

Where in boston you from, dude?

The thing is i'm not sure if it is a turbo coupe rear end. i'm just guessing it is because of the 3.55 gears and the four wheel discs, four lugs.

Well, if it had a conversion, your ebrake handle ratchet adjuster would have a weld on it.

If it had dissimilar axles, one tire would hang further out than the other.

BTW, a tc quad shock pillar would have been redrilled when fitted to a mustang. The proportioning valve under the master cylinder would look shinier and newer than the rest of the brake system and so forth.

Myabe it is a cobra rear instead.

TC axles are 3/4" longer than a stock mustang axle.

If you use a standard 4 lug axle in a TC rear end, you have to remove the anti-moan brace and flip the caliper mount bracket so that it faces the other way. Then you have to add some spacers to get the caliper to center up over the disc. Then you get to weld it all back up again. This is not the sort of thing a dealership would do for a customer car.

Ok, maybe its not a TC rear end then. Cobra rear ends came with 3.08s right ?

TC & Cobra are the same rear end except for the rear gear ratios. TC's come with 3.55's & 3.73's: I know that for sure. Cobra's come with 3.27's unless I am mistaken.

I'm pretty sure I saw a cobra rear with 3.55's at the local mustang boneyard. I axed the dood what the axle in the corner was and he said cobra axle and I went over to look at it and the tag had the something something 55 code on it so it was a 3.55 .
