Hi- Has anyone tried to mount turbo coupe rear disc brakes (caliper bracket, etc) onto a mustang 8.8 rear? my problem is i have an 8.8 in my car that i had powder coated so i cant change the whole rear but want disc brakes in the rear, and dont want to spend the 800 for a conversion kit. I can get a turbo coupe rear for 200 that has the disc brakes, i want to swap the disc brake components onto my mustang 8.8 rear. Has anyone tried this? will it fit?

The disc will work, but with some things changed. Turbocoupe's came with abit longer axles, so to use their brackets/calipers you will need to swap axles. Also it is recomended you upgrade your master cylinder as rear disc require abit more Umfh. Most people go with a sn95 master cylinder (its what i did).
-Be prepared to mix and match fittings and also flaring brake lines (not to hard).
-Also im not sure the about the ebrake cable, it may be the same? not sure.

i know- i didnt mean to do that- i hit "post" and nothing happened. i waited for like 2 minutes then hit post again- nothing happened. waited for another 2 minutes then hit post again- then it went through immediately, like it usually does, then i noticed it registered three times- i tried to delete the other two but cant-

the only reason you want to keep the rear in it now is because its powercoated? how about the fact that the Turbo Coupe rear comes w/ 3.55s or 3.73s & a factory locker of some kind like mine did. those kinds of mods in the T/C rear may change your mind to just install the complete rear. the T/C rear axles are 3/4" longer per side adding 1.5" of additional wheel track to the rear which is ok.

its not just powdercoated, it also has brand new 4:10s, with a motorsport posi unit, all brand new bearings, seals, etc.

ok, thats different then! i would grind off the caliper brackets from the T/C rear & reinstall them on your rear w/ clamps. then install the T/C axles into your rear & add all the rest after. brake line & M/C work are a must along w/ gutting the stock PV & adding an adjustable proportioning valve. the 73mm brake upgrade would be nice for the front too!

what, the caliper brackets on a turbo coupe rear arent bolted on? they are welded to the housing? i thought they bolted on. anyway, the brake lines and master work arent a problem, i just wanted to know if the turbo coupe stuff would fit my housing.

They have brackets to use the stock axles with turbocoupe brakes.

The TC caliper mount brackets bolt onto the housing. The anti-moan brace that sits at an angle and is welded on. The anti-moan brace forms a triangle with the caliper and axle housing to stiffen up the caliper mounting.

The only part thats welded on is that anti moan bracket. The brackets will bolt onto your stang rear just fine but as others have already stated, the axles will need to be swapped. It is possible to keep the stang length axles by using the north racecars brackets. The way I did it was to do some cutting on the bracket so that it could be mounted on the back of the housing flange. I spaced it, bolted and welded it to the housing. Im too cheap to buy the offset brackets but I wanted to keep my mustang axles.

Use the Northracecar brackets, and set the car up for the Fox trackwidth, makes it easier to change rims. I'd also consider a 5 lug swap while you had it apart.

Using north race car brackets, here was my cost to swap to 5 lug 95 cobra rear discs:

$150 brackets
$52 vented discs (shipped)
$65 used calipers off ebay
$10 proportianing valve plug
$40 proportianing valve
$30 pads
$65 FMS e brake cables
$30 for 95 soft brake lines (only friggin autozone had them, ford told me they aren't made anymore) and mics. fittings.
$75 Oem 93 cobra MC

I already had 5 lug moser axles in the car.

try to find the whole axle if you can, thats what i did. If you find an automatic TC it will have 3.73's and manual 3.55's. Good luck
