yea, I had my mufflers cut off and the exhaust was coming out right under the seats. It would rattle my change in the ashtray. I know yours isnt that loud but it would be louder than just adding tailpipes or side pipes like I did.
My exhaust consists of headers .... to h-pipe .... to flow-tubes .... to mufflers. That's it.
I had an exhaust shop take some 6" pieces of pipe and bend them ... then weld them onto my mufflers facing the ground.
When I bought the car, it had tips coming out the back. I had to cut those off due to the wide tires. The sound of the dumps is alot better, IMO. Someone previously stated that "when you open it up", it sounds better. IMO, the largest noticable difference is at idle. It's totally different than with tips. The rumble bounces off the ground. I love driving through parking lots & setting off alarms. I need to get a clip up for donjon's clip site.
If you have an O/R pipe, be wary that you might get some stink in the cabin with dumps.
Were the tailpipes routed under the axle? Otherwise, I couldnt figure out how the rear rests on the exhaust (I expected a verse vice situation).
Good luck with figuring it out. FWIW, to actually buy turndowns can be pricey, but a bent pipe at a parts store (if you can find it there) is not bad. At this point, it's worth trying it seems.
