From what I understand, unplugged automatically reverts to position #1. So if you unplug the switch it goes to whatever program is on #1.

If the 5 position switch is unplugged, you're gonna get what was in position 1 before you unplugged it. If the 5 position switch is plugged in, then you will get whatever position that switch was in.

In position 5 of the 5 position switch, you are deactivating any TwEECs that you have made and will get the stock tune that FORD programmed the EEC with.

to recap:

Position 5 SHOULD run as if you never installed the TwEECer.

Position 1 SHOULD run with whatever you put in there, the tweecer comes with the A9L and will make your car splutter and die and never find an idle and is essentially undriveable. If you want the stock tune on position 1, then read eec, save that cal as stock, then write tweecer with the switch in position 1. Make sure you are using the CBAZA strategy for the T4MO computer.

If you unplug the switch, but leave the tweecer installed, then you will get the position 1 tune as stated above. If you want to test out the tweecer as if you never installed, turn the tweecer switch to position 5. If you're car runs any different then it did when stock while in position 5, then there was an installation error or you have a bum tweecer.

Sorry for the length, tried to cover the bases!
