But how do i prove i did all this work to my car if i dont have recipts.... i have pictures of me working on the car with the trans out... the rear main seal and clutch would of cost a crap load to fix at anywhere... im gonna go talk to my mechanic and see if he will write up how much everything i did my self would cost... then send that in to the state and see what they say... because as of right now i dont have a job or the $$$ to even pay my $250 a month car inurance... i just cant see them telling me my car is worth $6,700... 207k milage is alot...

Most places use the NADA guide for car prices. www.nada.com They list your car as $6400 average retail.

I can't remember a time when someone tried to make their car seem to be worth LESS!

In Ohio, you can tell them that the car was in "poor" condition and they will go by the car in that condition. Of course, if your car wouldn't pass a state inspection (bald tires, no clutch, etc) it would definitely be considered "poor" condition. You can fight it. Tell them that it wasn't running or driveable when you bought it. Be careful, though. You don't want them to issue a salvage title.

The gov't, state or federal needs to go pack it. It seems they can never do their job right but the minute we (the people) mess up, we get fine or jail time. If its not that we have to pick up the slack behind them. Anyone see the new report of the big IRS f*** up, yeah thats what I'm talking about.

man...on the tax issue:

I personally didn't think I could get taxed so many times on my car...when I first got it, it seemed as though every time I turned around I was paying some kind of tax on the car......Well, at the time that I got my car I was kinda broke...largely in part because the government taxes my friggin paycheck too. And, if I have to buy a part for it, that gets taxed as well.....

So much taxes lol....../end rant

good luck on your situation though

ok trying to figure this out ... you bought the car in non running order and paid the correct tax on what you bought it for? and they want what the vehicle retail value is now? ...or did you write some bs amount on the title and they caught this and are penilizing you for it?

if you bought your stuff on ebay, paypal keeps all your receipts, i know a way to lower taxes its to lower the pay checks of the goverment officials i think they get paid to much, and they dont have to pay taxes i think but can file for taxes they should get payed by the hour 1/4 of my paycheck goes to taxes.

LOL...But who doesn't?
My dad worked with a guy a couple years ago that said he paid like $900 for a 5 yr-old Monte Carlo. The tax office called him and told him there was no way he paid $900 for a '98 Monte Carlo. So he wrote that he bought the car is non-drivable condition and fixed it up, then had his friend's g/f notarize the document. I don't know exactly what happened, but I think the state just lost interest or something.

KBB is so low because when people sell their cars, they almost always claim that they sold it for less than they did (for tax purposes for the buyer)

Yea i think im gonna make a list of everything i have replaced... because the rear main seal and clutch TOB and pilot bearing are all pretty big repairs along with the Harmonic balancer... ill send them the list along with pictures of me working on the car... and the parts reciepts from pay pal... and the few i have from autozone... ill go up to my mechanic... and have him write up what that would cost to get done at a shop... then send that in....

usually if its a private owner you can just have them state that its a gift. I think you have to put down $1 for a gift. How would they ever be able to prove that your "friend" didn't give you the car. I've known a couple of people that have done this without any problems.
