The data plate on the door of my mustang was painted over by morons when the car was painted but I can still see the numbers clearly with the stamped metal. My VIN is as follows, along with the data plate info:

7R02C163918
63A 6 2F 06A 72 0 1

While decoding the information I found that the second to last number (the 0) is my rear axle code. But in 67 there was no 0 axle code. Only 1,2,3,4,5,6,A,C,D,E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I even have the little metal plate that you could bring to the dealer with the same stamped information on it. Same 0.... what the hell? What's my rear axle ratio?

At least my VIN is correct (fender check long ago).

Pissed,
-Tim

That could simply indicate that the rearend/ratio was a special order. Ford did this a lot on data plates.

Maybe the Marti Report for the car may reveal what it was ordered with? I know on my report the build sheet has the rear end that was put in the car. I'm only guessing that this may help though.

Hmmm, a California 289 2V car, probably a 2.80 or 3.00 8" rear.

Try a better decoder. For some reason, the "0" is missing in a LOT of the online decoders - I've seen several other posts stating that their axle code didn't decode.
BTW, it's a 2.79 open.
