Upgrading to 31 spline diff and axles?

Just a quick question, do I need check the backlash and all that good stuff when I swap diff's? Or can I just take one out and put the other in? I plan on getting the 03 Cobra diff w/carbon fiber clutches. I assume those use the same friction modifier as our stock ones?

Edit: Also, do I need an installation kit with all the bearings and shims and whatnot?

I run the same friction modifier with the 03 Cobra diff, no problems.

I dont think you have to.

But do you have to change the actual diff or just the axle gears? If its the latter then i dont see why you would have to set the backlash again.

yes you should check backlash as the new diff may be slightly diff dimensions which can change backlash.
