UPR K-Member Kit

Anyone know if the upr k-member and coil over kit is any good? It would be for an 03 cobra. Thanks guys.

I got to see it this weekend at the NMRA comp at Bradenton motorspeedway. I almost bought it but I didn't have enough cash on hand. I've heard nothing but good stuff about it.

I've been eyeing up a k-member kit for my '00 gt for a while now since my car has every other bolt on.
I am just confused on what "spring rate" is right for my car, they have about 10 different spring rates to choose from on there website.

UPR will set the spring rate for you, just tell them what use you will be using it for

Like with all the K members, you are compromising crash worthyness for weight. You'll proably die. But thats ok

Over react much?!

If you get into a front end collision so bad that you have to be concerned about what the K-member is going to do then you are dead already. How many accidents have you ever heard of where someone died as a direct result of a faulty aftermarket K-member or one not performing the same as the stock K-member? I've never heard of one instance. I've seen race cars slam into the wall at 100+ MPH with tubular K-members and walk away.

As for the UPR K-members they are great pieces, I had one in my daily driver for 4 years with no issues and put it through all kinds of abuse and close to 80k miles before I sold the car. I'll also be putting one in the car I just bought recently.

A kmemeber doesn't have to faulty to fail in a crash. An aftermarket K member will not performe the same as the stock one. The stock K member is designed to push the motor down and under the car in a frontal impact. How many compaines have crash tested their k members? Most of those are not head on impacts with another car at 60mph. You are compromising safety when you put on an Aftermarket K. Period. With that said the UPR is a great K member. And if I ever put one on my car, then I will proably go with the UPR.

If you look at the design and mounting points of a K-member the only way it would push the engine under the car is if the 8 mounting bolts were to sheer off in an accident. Since most aftermarket K-members use factory hardware they would sheer off the same regardless if you have a factory K-member or aftermarket K-member in there. There is nothing special in the design of the stock K-member that would cause it to push the engine under the car in the accident other than the above. All you have to do is look at the top of it which is one large thick piece of stamped steel that mounts to both subframe points and has the mounts to the engine on it as well.

Thanks guys for the response. By the way what shocks do you use. Also do 03 cobras come stock with bilstien (I think thats how you spell it). And one last question what setup for the rear IRS?

I had lakewood 70/30s but I was doing alot of racing at the time. The 03-04 Cobras have bilstiens and are the only shock that does not work with coil over kits (body of strut is too big of the coil over sleeve).

Not sure what you are asking about for the IRS.

I'm using Tokicos on my UPR setup.

No serious issues other than I set the front end too low for the shocks I ordered.

Maybe in your mini-van, not on our cars. Chrome-moly is some tough stuff, though. If the welds are good quality, I would think it would be just fine.

Its pretty hard to believe that a front end collision could be able to push through your bumper support, hit your motor so hard it would break the welds on the k member, and PUSH your motor through your firewall into the driver.
