Any thoughts on why so many '05s are on the used car lots??

Will it be the same for the '06s?

When the New 'Stangs came out in '05, a lot of people jumped on the Band-Wagon just to say that they own a 'Stang. Now that the "fad" has calmed down they are trading them in to follow the next "fad".

Most used lot stangs are autos. My son has been looking and it seems like 95% of them are.

If they had put some real exhaust on them and a better tune, I'm sure some would have kept them. And what shooter reign and anthony said too.

Before I ordered my 07 GT Convertible, I was looking for a used 05-06 GT 5-Speed Convertible and found several at web sites like cars.com, autotraderonline.com and carmax.com. Unfortunately the prices for most of them were in the $30k neighborhood. At those prices it made more sense to just spend a little more and order a 2007 and get it in the color of my choice with the exact equipment that I wanted.
My theory is that most of these cars sold at or above sticker when new (especially the 05s) and that is what's probably keeping their resale values high. Of course now that the dealers are willing to negotiate on the new ones the selling prices for used ones will probably begin to fall into a more reasonable range.

Well I figure since I have 2 dealers willing to sell me a new 06 gt for under MSRP. I won't be looking for used.

When I started looking in early July, there was a dealer in Raleigh NC who offered me $3000 off MSRP for any GT Convertible that he had in stock over the internet. Unfortunately he didn't have the color that I wanted in a 5-speed. Besides, I had already researched the changes for the 2007 model year and had decided that I wanted the built in Sirius and the upgraded cloth convertible top, which were new options for 07. As best as I can tell $3000 off the MSRP is actually below invoice.

No used GTs on the lots, only V6, usually because of previous owners going to the V8.

I've seen several used GTs. I also know where there are many new 2006 GTs setting on the lot.

In the last couple of weeks here in the Midwest, 5spd 05' GTs are running through dealer auctions in the mid to high $17K range. With miles in the mid-high 20s. They are bringing between $1500-$1800 less than they were only 2 months ago.

I told my inventory manager, to pull the trigger on the first black 05' 5 speed that he can buy in the $16k range. He figures late December/January in the cold months, will be my best chance. I'm SO ready to start modding one of these 05+ cars.

Central Illinois

There area a ton of used 05 and 06 V6's around here (central Illinois). They are not bargin priced. One dealer told me the 06's he had were trades for GT's and the 05's were off lease/auction cars. He said when Ford put 0% on the new 06's they all sold quickly. He had 20 new on the ground on Labor day, sold 6 in one day, and now has only 1 on the lot, along with 2 07's that he is not dealing on. Not many GT's, new or used around here. There are a lot offered on E-bay.

Lots of used 05 GTs sitting on dealer lots around me. The same cars have been sitting there for many months, some since January because the dealers are asking insane prices for them. In some cases the dealers are asking more for used 05 GTs than what you could buy a new 07 GT for.

thats because they are in too deep to negotiate on them

the dealers pay too much for them up front, then cant sell them for that much profit like they planned. then they are stuck with them.

There is a 05GT auto on my dealers used car section. Asking price of 25K! I priced out the GT I plan to buy at 29K and then around 19K with my trade in and money down... Yikes!

In my case, the difference between buying a used 05-06 GT Convertible and ordering a new 07 was less than a thousand bucks.

I agree, many dealers paid too much for used 05 GTs when new GTs were in short supply. But keeping a car sitting on a dealer's lot costs $$. Sooner or later they have to suck it up and do whatever it takes to sell the car.

Here are some sample ads I just pulled:

2005 Mustang GT Coupe, $27,999, silver, 3,572 mi, 8 cyl., 4.6, fuel injected, 5 speed manual, ps, pb, pdl, pw, power driver's seat, am/fm stereo radio, 6 disc in-dash cd changer, traction control system, dual airbags, tachometer, air, tilt, cruise, tinted glass, front bucket seats, reclining seats, leather upholstery, anti-lock braking system, extra clean condition, high performance tires, alloy wheels, rear defroster, console, dual sport mirrors, sport steering wheel, fold down rear seat, mp3 player, VIN:1ZVHT82H65

This dealer needs to check how many gears it has:
2005 Mustang GT Coupe, $24,950, stk# u476, cruise, pdl, pw, tilt, only 16,625 miles, 6 speed, stamford mazda Stock No:10429905,

Any bets whether it really has a remote trunk release?
2005 Mustang GT Coupe, $26,465, maroon, 9,037 mi, 8 cyl., 4.6, fuel injected, 5 speed manual, ps, pb, pdl, pw, power driver's seat, am/fm stereo radio, CD, premium sound system, multi disc cd changer, radial tires, tachometer, air, tilt, cruise, tinted glass, driver side air bag, passenger side air bag, front bucket seats, reclining seats, leather upholstery, security system, anti-lock braking system, alloy wheels, rear defroster, remote trunk lid, console, dual sport mirrors, VIN:1ZVFT82

Actually I REALLY find this one funny.

2005 Mustang GT Coupe, $26,995, yellow, 10,100 mi, front wipers - intermittent: variable intermittent, driver mirror adjustment: power, engine immobilizer: engine immobilizer, seatbelt pretensioners: front, stabilizer bar: front and rear, cylinders: 8, driven wheels: rear wheel drive, center console: front console with storage, emergency trunk release: interior trunk release, antenna type: mast, adjustable front headrests: height adjustable headrests, horse power: 300, front suspension type: macpherson strut, cruise control: cruise control, abs: 4-wheel abs, diameter: 17, power windows: power windows, midyear release: no, cupholders: front, power door locks: remote power door locks, size: temporary, child seat anchors: child seat anchors, active anti-theft system, type: bucket, total number of speakers: 4, tachometer: tachometer, traction control: traction control, mount location: inside, head restraint test rating (iihs): not tested, number of front headrests: 2, watts: 120, cruise controls on steering wheel: cruise controls, vanity mirrors: dual vanity mirrors, electronic brakeforce distribution: electronic brakeforce distribution, seatbelt force limiters: front, manual / automatic: manual, height adjustable: height adjustable, low fuel level: low fuel level, manual adjustments: 2, one-touch windows: 1, in-dash cd: single cd player, clock: clock, independent: front, manufacturer's engine code: 99h, power adjustments: 6, front air conditioning zones: single, valve gear: single overhead camshaft, passenger mirror adjustment: power, rim type: painted alloy, front air conditioning: air conditioning, door pockets: front, diameter: 17, rear suspension type: solid live axle, rear spoiler: rear spoiler, type: gas, steering wheel: tilt-adjustable, front fog lights: front fog/driving lights, floor mat material: carpet, number of speeds: 5, passenger airbag deactivation: occupant sensing deactivation, rear brakes: ventilated disc, displacement: 4606, radio: am/fm, upholstery: cloth, front brakes: ventilated disc, power steering: power steering, rim type: steel, front seat type: sport, folding: split folding VIN:1ZVFT82H35 Stock No48321, Call Stevens

Come on you mean a mustang has front wipers? WOW
Center console:Front console with storage? Huh?
abs: 4 wheel abs. As opposed to...?
diameter: 17" What the abs is 17"?
size: temporary. Uhh temporary what?
type: bucket. Ok bucket what, child restraints?
mount location: inside. Hmm I hope he's not talking about traction control.
number of headrests:2, watts 120. Ok so the headrests are 120 watt?
low fuel level: low fuel level, manual adjustments:2. So I can manually adjust my low fuel? I guess that means I have to fill it up.
independant: front. ???
power adjustments:6 again?
rear spoiler: rear spoiler, type:gas, Cool I can have a gas powered rear spoiler. No wonder my mileage sucks
floor mat: carpet, number of speeds:5. My carpet has 5 speeds DAMN.
rear brakes: ventilated disc, displacement: 4606, Those are BIG brakes.

Any wonder why they want soo much for this car? Look at all the special features it has.
