Ok, I'll admit I dumped 4 qts of dextron III in the trans after I installed a B&M shift improver kit. Well now the car will only move in foreward gears and slooowly at that.

I installed a drain plug when the pan was down so I drained off close to 4 qts and added 4 qts of type F. Still the same condition.

Could I unhook a trans line and let it pump as much fluid out as safley possible then add more type f or just drain the t converter and pan a bunch of times until I get the dextron out? I followed the directions on the kit to a "t". Just used the wrong trans fluid. Damn,I feel stupid.

Edit: Trans is a 1972 c4 from a truck. Worked good until I messed with it.

i suupose you could pump it all out....but from what you describe, something else is wrong. I dont think its just the fluid. You can take it to a shop, they can hook it up to one of their tranny-pump machines and they will pump it all out and replace it with new stuff.

im with acf, i think something is wrong with the tranny or shifter, as long as you dont mix the fluids, you usually dont have any problems with using the wrong stuff.

You put the kit in let's just say "not correct". The bands are out of adjustment.

Also get some "Lucas Tranny Additive" Should help you out.

I think it is the shift kit if anything. I was told that if you have your tranny rebuilt, now adays you can put in the different types. The old clutches required the different fluid I guess. I was told I can put in the dextron with my new clutches. This was from my tranny guy.
You can flush the tranny yourself. Disconnect your tranny cooling line that is the return. Let it run into a bucket. Continue to fill the tranny with fluid while runnig untill it is all one color. Make sure its a constant flow out when the car is running. You don't want to burn it up.

A few different ideas it seems:
1)Are the bands out of adjustment?if so how do i correct this.
And/Or
2)Do I need to redo the shift kit install?

Damn,I took my time installing that kit and thought I nailed it. Wouldnt be the first time I goofed somthing up though.

Edit: thanks

Did you have any extra parts left over? Not trying to be funny here. One of my co-workers installed a shift kit in a 350 turbo (Chebie) and forgot to install a tiny ball bearing that was required in the shift kit and he said it ran like a dog after that.

I would definitley take out the VB And reinstall the shift kit. I put one tiny thing in backwards and the only gear it would go into is first. I bet its possible you just put one thing in wrong or forgot something and is causing all the problems.

Your problem isn't the fliud.

A lot of times on C4s, people get the kit in right, but dont get the shifter lined up properly with the spool. Make sure your detent is in the right groove.
