Yeah so i have the Valentine One with laser installed, but im not sure about the mounting position on the windshield. Can anyone post a pick of where you have yours mounted?

This is debated quite a bit, but I go with the school of thought that it should be mounted up high on the windshield. The theory is that the higher up it is, the better its range will be. Different car, of course, but I've got mine mounted up by the rear view mirror.

EDIT: fixed pic link. Sorry 'bout that. Moved things around on my site and messed up this link. :)

...and another thing: please mount it level, not pointing up at the sky, or down at the hood. Everytime I see somebody driving around with their detectors aiming up or down like this I just want to smack 'em. :damnit:

QFTMFT! I see that crap all the time and I wonder if they're worried about airborne radar or something.

Something else to keep in mind when mounting your V1, it also requires a clear view through the rear window. It has forward and rear sensors so make sure you don't mount it so high that the rear sensor is looking at your headliner.

U.M.

My V-1 is about 1" above the hood line. Having a Vert, there's not much rear window for it to have a clear view in the first place. Been working fine so far.

yeah i have mine mounted lower on the windshield and i am thinking that i might need to move it up but i think that the rear veiw mirror is too high and i dont want it sitting in the middle of the windshield....

i used to have mine mounted in the center of the windshield, about 6" up from the hood. i recently just switched mine to right up at the top of the windshield, to the left of the rearview, just like in that pic. it actuall does make a difference in the distance it can pick things up, there are a couple of stationary speed signs in my area, and i drive by them every day and it makes a difference. i also hard wired it to the dome lights, it is much less distracting up there then in the center of the windshield. ill slap up a pic. if you are going to hardwire it let me know ill post instructions.

cool thanks guy, and yeah id be interested in knowing how hard it was to hard wire official style

It's a piece of cake if you've done any kind of car audio or wiring before. If not, any car audio shop could install it for you. My friend got quoted $50 to install his. Kind of pricey, but if you'd rather not get your hands dirty it's something to think about.

and once its hardwired does that mean it goes off when the car goes off and on when you start it? or do you still have to turn it on and off because it will run when the car is not running like an acessory in the car?

As long as it's wired to a switched power line, yes. Though, personally, I wait until my car is started before I turn the V1 on, just to be safe. Probably nothing bad would happen, but I wonder about power dips and such. Color me paranoid. :)

i think that it will kill the power to it after 30 mins, because it does this with the dome lights. also, if you leave it on and start the car, it will turn it off while starting. ALL modern cars cut the accessories while starting. on the V1 the green phone wire is + and red is -
