Valve Cover Gasket

I have an 1990 Ford Mustang GT.
I was wondering i just got a mechanic to look at it and he said it has an oil leak. He told me i Need a new valve cover gasket. He also said with labor and the part it will cost around $300.00 is this true?


And can someone also please tell me how hard and how to install this it is?

um, Wow.

Do it yourself. I would use gaskets which are rubber over metal (and have ferrules in the bosses). Nice, reusable pieces.

If not, shop around would be my advice.

Buy these valve cover gaskets and replace them your self.

All you need to do is remove the upper intake and unbolt the valve covers and reinstall them back.

Should any kind of sealer or RTV be used between upper and lower manifold when reinstalling?

No, sealer is not needed between the upper and lower manifold.

But a gasket is nice (between the upper and lower). 5 bucks at the parts store.
