Couple of questions:

1) is it ok to re use the original valve cover gaskets if they look fine? (7 year old gaskets but rubber shouldnt break down, right?)

2) what is the purpose of using the RTV in the two spots on the head? Do i have to do that again?

Yes they should be fine to reuse again as long as they are still in one piece and look ok.

Use a razor blade and get that old RTV off and reapply some more in the same spots when you put the valve cover back on, it is just to seal the front cover to the block in those 2 spots on each side.

thanks, but i figured I might as well as play it safe and just buy new gaskets. Not worth tearing it all down again for $30.

Why are there so many different part numbers for the valve cover gaskets? I have these part numbers and they all come up with the same application gaskets.

F6AZ-6584-AA (RH) and F6AZ-6584-BA (LH)
2C2Z-6584-AA (RH) and 2C2Z-6584-BA (LH)
2L3Z-6584-AA (LH) and 2L3Z-6584-BA (RH)

The difference is Romeo or Windsor Heads. Just tell the dealer how many bolts you have in each VC and they will get you the correct one. If you already have the VC's off just look at your cam caps. If the are caps (individual 2 bolts each) and not cages then you have a Windsor head.
