i am thinking about painting my valve covers, and i was wondering if you can switch the sides that they are on. because i dont like where my oil cap is, its hard to get the cap off in between the alternator..can they be swtiched or do i need to buy new ones where the hole is one the right one?

you could switch them if the filler neck will be clear of the intake manifold, but i dont think it will be. Im not sure how far the cobra intake goes over the drivers side valve cover. Take some measurements, it might work, but it could put the filler neck in an even worse spot.

I had the same issue with my Ford Racing valve covers. So I got this:
Trick Flow Specialties TFS-51400800 - Trick Flow Billet Oil Fill Kits - summitracing.com
That way you don't need a funnel or have to fish under plug wires, etc to pull the cap off.

almost any valve cover meant for non-EFI (older 302s) will have a hole on the left side of each valve cover. So this would put a filler hole at the front of the drivers side valve cover and another filler hole at the rear of the passenger side valve cover. They also have valve covers that dont have a hole cut in them yet, so you can decide exactly where you want that hole.

yes the valve covers can swap sides. The bolt pattern and shape is exactly the same foe each
