How do you know if you have a valve problem? On my car, I have what sounds like knocking pinging when I am at low RPMs on 4th gear for example. Any ideas?

it could be detenation. try driving 35-40mph in 4th and floor it for a few seconds, if the motor is going to ping, it will under this load. if it pings, try a higher octane gas.
