Hi i had to spin this off from the original thread, because i want to learn what caused a rocker stud to break, and why.

I heard a clinking in the motor i had to take off the valve cover.
discovered afr 185 head with 3/8 stud was broken.

After inspection i discovered the push rod was rubbing a bit in the port.
i saw some were on the cylinder heads. not on either sides of the guide plate, but on the front wall were the push rod is free to travel from front to back of the cylinder.

I had a tapping sound for a wile, from day one.
now that its broken i would like to know a cause.

was the push rod to small, or was the lash over tightened. or was a flat lifter to blame?

I am thinking geometry here, but that should have been discovered from the install of the push rod.

DSS at fault again? if you want a tight engine you should look somewhere else other than
dss. the shabby workman ship and a lack of detail tells me they just don't care enough to make a quality, long lasting engine. that makes power.

sorry about the rant, but damm.

same thing happen on my afr 185 heads, i broke a rocker stud too, after researching the problem i found alot of other guys with afr 185 heads with same problem. Anyway it was not DSS fault actually as much as i love my afr heads the rocker studs they use suck! here is a thread where i posted about and has the fix and part number for (ARP stud kit) .....no problems since
