i got this roller short block motor from a wrecked car and it turned out it was recently rebuilt. not sure if the block was milled or not. i had some rebuilt stock heads that i used on a different motor with a flat tappet cam with no problems that i put on this roller motor with the short roller pushrods. it uses the old firing order. when i torque the stock rockers to 17 it pushes the valves down a fair amount allowing it to lose compression and not start. i loosened the rockers and it cranked and ran good. i ran the number on the cam and i believe it cam from a mid 80's lincoln towncar. is that a roller cam. if not, that could be my problem. like i said, i used these heads on a different motor with a flat tappet cam and it ran just fine. if i do need shims, how would i know which ones i need WITHOUT taking a head off again. it would be the 3rd time. and would a parts store sell these or is it a machine shop thing. if anybody in texas needs a 98 honda 300ex sport quad and has some spare aluminum heads with rockers and everything needed to use them and wants to do a trade, i am up for that.
