Vert questions?

Hey guys...

Looking at a vert...owner says the top is new but needs top seal were the top meets the windshield...what exactly is this and where can I buy one?

Tried 50resto but cant find it ,,,unless theres another name to it,,thxs

It is exactly what he described, a piece of weatherstrip that extends from the 1/4 window all the way around the front to the other 1/4 window. It sits in a channel around the top frame and seals it to the windshield and door glass. I got mine from 50resto under part number LRS-53986D. I recently installing the 50resto header on my vert... It is very easy to install. Just rip the old stuff out, clean out any left over glue/residue, install new header, make sure it fits nice, then use some weatherstripping adhesive to keep it in place. The Ford part is slightly superior because it is thicker (where the frame meets the windshield). So when you install the new piece, you may have to adjusts the latch j-hooks by 1 or 2 turns to get a better seal.

You can get them from your local Ford dealer...When you install,dont glue it down. Then if you have to replace the top,the new weatherstriping wont get damaged...Im glad I didnt,because I have replaced 3 tops since I bought the weatherstripping...Car was broken into 3 times in 2 years...

Thats what Im scared of by getting a vert,,people cutting the top and stealing stuff. Do they have any special alarms to prevent this..also do the insurance company pay you a new top if you have full coverage? Thanks

I have a Clifford alarm with proximity sensor. If you get near my car it chirps to warn you. The sensitivity is adjustable. It's nice to be able to arm the alarm & leave the top down & not worry about the top or interior.

insurance will pay for new top and install if it is cut getting broken in to - they will depreciate it based on age/wear etc... if necessary as they owe for what was there - I am an insurance adjuster in VA who has had to do this several times over the years - not too often as you would think - unless you have enemies you will probably be ok - it is lots easier to bust the glass from what I have seen - we pay for the glass if busted too - always bolt down your stuff - insurance does not cover items that are not permanantly attached to the car - velcro and double sided tape does not count

If it's a plastic rear window it probably just cracked due to age.

If it is the glass rear window more than likely the glass and top material have seperated at the bottom of the glass. Had that problem on my 93 when I bought it. Needed a new top anyway though so I had it all done at once.
