Very weird C spring install...

I have a 2000 GT vert... and I decided to lower it today. Now I was a bit afraid of doing this because its my daily driver and I didn't want to sacrifice ride quality, as appearance and whatnot really isn't on the top of my list for the car.

I went with the Ford C springs because I am a cheap bastard, and pretty much just crossed my fingers that they would ride nearly as smooth as stock. My car for some reason has always rode kind of bumpy, a bit too much I felt, and this is on stock springs. It has 69000 miles on it, incase that matters.

I finished the install tonight and drove the car for a half hour. I'm very surprised. The springs definately feel SMOOTHER than the stock springs, which was not expected. Is there anything maybe wrong here, or this a possible effect of aftermarket springs? Or maybe I need to give them more time to settle in and get rougher?

they will settle a bit and get a lil firmer, but i have the same springs with a coil cut in the rear and i still say it is a comfortable ride.

the stock springs are very soft, thus greating alot of up and down motion over bumps whereas a good set of springs and shocks will absorb the impact of a bump rather than create more wheel travel.

Quasi off-topic to ChrisXoxide: did you do the install yourself? If so, how difficult was it? In other words, could a hack (hypothetically, of course ) do the install?

You could install them yourself, basic tools. The biggest thing that was a help was my dad helped me and we did it on his car lift at the shop. Without a car lift I don't know how easy the install would be. Its a solid 3 hours with a lift and maybe 5-6 without one....

My dad knew what he was doing though , and Pete (stangtrooper) pretty much assisted him. I basically watched... LOL

But really - I could do it on my own with the lift I think if I needed to. The back springs are simple and the front would be easy if you had a friend to help out. 2 man job.

Glad to hear you like the ride of the C springs. I've got C springs and Mach1 shocks/struts in the garage awaiting a free weekend to install.

kinda off-topic but i am looking to get springs soon, just finished the exhaust yesturday so i need somehting else to do! i have been looking at the ford B and C springs.....only question i have is what is the difference between them? and what do you guys prefer?

B springs are roughly the same spring rate at stock springs, just with a modest drop. C springs are significantly stiffer, a little more than the Bullitt springs in the front. Here's a nice write up of springs:

so they c and b offer the same drop form what that site said, but the c is stiffer as nasagt said. so the c springs would be the best way to go then?
