i honestly don't see much in there that can't be fixed, you have to remember most of these cars already had a racing pedigree and many have probably been through this kind of thing before, my concern is for the drivers at this point i hope no one was killed or permanently maimed in the wreck. the cars can be put back right, it will cost a lot of money but a lot of those cars are worth 10 times what it would cost to fix them.

Everyone is OK. No one was hurt.

This particular race (fan attendence was 20,000) did not require a previous racing history (a racing pedigree) to enter. All vintage racers in the many different vintage sanctioning bodies were invited. It is one of the most popular in the nation. Only Monterey and the Rolex GP at The Glen require a vintage racing history and are more attended and more popular than this event.

The grid had about 58 cars. The cars did not bunch properly so the flagman waved off the start. At Rd America there is a rise just before the start/finish. The top qualifiers saw the wave and slowed. The mid pack started racing and topped the rise to find slowing cars. Cars that qualified (~) 4-20 were involved.

It doesn't matter what series you race in. It can and probably will happen to you at some point.

The black Camaro had won the award for best restored car the night before and was destroyed. The C3 Corvette was destroyed. The AC Cobra is real since they do not allow replicas in vintage racing.

Full safety equipment is required. Most wear a head/neck restraint.

Dang that sucks! It is racing though and not the safest thing in the world to do. Glad no one was hurt, and I'd be out there racing with those guys if I had money.

Road America last weekend. I used to go to this event a lot. It was about 95 degrees out when this happened.

i have seen a couple of those cars as well. I hope they get repaired and are able to race in monterey. Thats a huge weekend here.

That really sucks, but if you're gonna race you better know the consequences. A couple years back, my brother snagged a ride in a vintage Camaro Trans Am racer at Sears Point, driven by Tomy Drissi. After a couple full-race speed laps, they pulled into the pits and my brother asked Drissi how much the car was worth, given it's history and all. Drissi said it was likely worth about $200,000. My brother was amazed and aske if he ever worried about it getting damaged, since it spent mor time sideways than not. Tomy told him, " it's a race car, don't you think it's ever been wrecked before?" That's a good point. I mean, think about it, one of the original Daytona coupes once was virtually wiped out in a transporter accident during it's racing days, yet it was rebuilt. A genuine Ford GT40 was recently discovered out in back of Salt Walther's old race shop after it had been detroyed in a fire AND LATER BURIED! Yet it was deemed valuable enough to dig up and restore. Those cars aren't damaged that bad, and they aren't owned by guys like you and I. Rich people own those cars, and if they have the means to own and race them, they have the means to fix them. I'd worry about the drivers...
