i was on my way home today and my car started to shake real bad. I thought it might be the brakes becasue when i slowed down it shook worse. when i got home i got out of the car and opened the hood and my motor was shaking real bad. i gave it a little gas and it just got worse. i think it might be a motor mount. what else would casue that

Sounds more like a balancer. I'd take a look at it for a slipped outer ring. If this is the case, dont drive it.

Good luck.

yup...i'd agree with hissin...my buddies 95 spun a balancer and it caused similar problems. check that first, then take a look at the mounts...either one will be easy to see it something is amiss.

i am going to either take it to the shop or have my buddy who works at the stang shop i usally go to come over and give a look. how much does a balancer cost. can you use a used one? what other parts should you change while doing this job. sorry about all the questions but sometimes its just easier to do everything the first time instead of doing the job twice becasue you didn't do it right the first time.

If you have time, you can check it out yourself. If you search in here, you can see pics of what to look for (I'd do it for you, but it's painful to do so on dial-up).

Look for a wobbling balancer, the timing marks to be way off if you try to check timing, and the outer ring to act as if someone hit the face of it with a hammer. Also check for cracks in the elastomer (rubber) between the two rings. It tends to crack and bunch-out as the ring slips.

If it is the balancer: New balancers range from 80-300 bucks (for most). A non SFI Pioneer can be had from some parts stores for 80 bucks or a bit more and is a good unit for a street car IMHO. The SFI Pioneer is about double the price. A lot of guys like the PP units, while a few dont.
Romac makes a very nice piece, but it's pricey and might be overkill (dont know your combo). A search can reveal tons more opinions and options.

You can rent a puller and install tool when you swap the balancer (it's one tool kit). The fan and rad will probably have to come out. The rest is R/R.

Good luck.
