To start the car is a 95 5speed 5.0 I have a very bad vibration/shake as I accelerate through each gear. It gets worse the higher the rpm I go. It starts around 2000 rpm's and up. It first started out with a small shake but through out a week it has gotten worse. Along with this problem when I take it out of gear and the rpm's drop I get a loud knock/vibration in my shifter and you can feel it in through out the car. It most predominate in the shifter. So far I have tightened and checked the exhaust for clearance, checked drive shaft bolts they are tight. The wheels are in balance. The clutch disk is getting low but still has some material on it so I am ruling out a bad disk, the flywheel is good, rear main seal has been replaced along with Pilot bearing and throw out bearing.

The front seal is leaking a small bit on the engine, but the harmonic balancer seems fine and not loose. .. The only thing I can think it could be is a bad rear end. I did see a wet substance on the rear driver side dust shield where maybe a seal busted on my rear end. I think its from before I had the rear end rebuilt (2 years ago) and the 3:73 gears put in. It does have a small leak on the bottom of the differential cover.

I've searched the forum for 2 days and haven't found any post with both of the problems I have described so It was finally time to post the problem.

Could your harmonic balancer have spun? Sometimes they spin without throwing any of the rubber out from the back. When was the last time you checked your timing? If your timing is really far off yet the engine runs fine, it may be time for a new harmonic balancer.

I agree with the others about your HB going bad

MOST IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW IS !!!

You could be doing damage to your motor

by continuing to drive your Stang in that condition
