Anyone know what the output Voltage is for the instrument panel Voltage regulator on a '66?

Mine has stopped working, and finding a replacement on this side of the pond has proven quite difficult, so I want to make one.

Thanks in advance!

It is not really a regulater. It's called a constant votage unit. It has a pulsed output. THe output should fluctuate from zero to 6-7 volts. THey do fail, but I have rarely encountered one that was actually bad. It needs a good ground, 12v in on one of the terminals, and a pulsed output on the other terminal. But if it's failed, you can construct a simple voltage regulater to put out about 7 volts, it should work. If you make it adjustable, you can fine tune the gauges to be accurate.

5.5 volts is what my old one reads.. you can pick up the solid state version at radio shack for about 5 bucks.

This is what you need. Super easy to solder up and install and way better than the old reg.

Thanks Guys - Radio Shack pulled out of the UK about 10 years ago, but I can get a solid state 12V-5V regulator no problem.

I'll try it out and see how accurate it is.
