Did a search and didn't find anything.

I've got a chance to get a great deal on an entire Vortech kit from a friend. But the bearings are shot inside the supercharger (still functional, but very squeaky and could go any second).

So i'm looking at getting it rebuilt and debating if I should do it myself. I'm told from people that "if you got a bearing press you'll be fine" others have said that I should send it to vortech and have them do it because of the precision gearing inside of them.

Has anyone attempted this or should I send it to Vortech and pay the $380.00 for a rebuild.

BTW its a standard S-Trim

ALSO it came out of a '96 mystic will there be any issues with the kit (bracket not fitting ect...) I havent seen the Vortech since last year when the mystic got a new motor.

Thanks
-Chris

youll need more boost to make the same amount of power as a 2v s trim. The impellar is smaller in the 4v.

Id send it in.

I'd send it in to vortech, then they warranty the work.

I dont think thats true, they should be the same blower..

I thought they were the same thing as well, I almost got a s strim head unit a couple months ago that was on a 4v car, and I was told on stangnet that it is a different impellar. Ill see if I can verify that.

I dont see how they can be different, they are the same P/N. Its just a CCW S trim blower with a straight discharge. The mounting bracket and supporting hardware make the difference.

If you can find the posts, post 'em up!

I know someone posted this question at modularfords in the Vortech vendor forum, and Frank came back and said they are the same blower...

Should be the same head unit, but the brackets and tubeing will be different for the 4v. That's why they make 2 different kits for the different cars.

And if you are a good gearhead then maybe try to rebuild yourself. But like it was mentioned before, send it to vortec, get it done right the first time with a warranty.

Ok, here is the deal from Vortech themselves-

From Frank@Vortech-

"The blower dimensions and bolt patterns are the same. The impellers in some of the Cobra kits are different (SC-Trim/E-Trim). They're not smaller in size just of different design. The 4.6 4V motors like to build boost quickly, so we desinged the SC-Trim and E-Trim blowers to have to be spun a little faster than an S-Trim to make the same amount of boost. For example the 96-97 Cobra standard kit comes with an SC-Trim and makes 7-9 PSI on a stock 4.6 4V. An S-Trim with the same pulley on the same motor makes 9-11 PSI. So if you wanted the SC-Trim to make 9-11 PSI you'd have to swap on a smaller pulley...i.e. spin it faster. This is only for the 4V motors."

So, an S-trim is an S-trim. If its an SC-Trim or E-trim, it has the 4V impeller. I guess we were both right!
