I had a customer here at work show me how the 370z beat the stang in a 1/4 mile. I know the Z is lighter but still. It's so stupid that a Mustang gets beat by a 6 cylinder period. Specially since they are somewhat in the same price range. Just another reason for ricers to talk smack.

Just a vent.

I dunno...Porsche’s have been beating V8 cars with twice as many cylinders for years. This isn't the first time that Nissan/Datsun has been able to meet or beat the performance of a Mustang?

In any case, don't put too much faith in magazine stats. They're both pretty evenly matched cars. One publicized article about a 370Z beating a Mustang GT and suddenly the whole world is upside down. lol

Even when you compare the numbers....332hp and 3232lbs for the Z vs. 315hp and 3450lbs for the GT. Tack on the slightly higher price tag of the 370Z and it should be the victor.

In any case, there's no shame in getting beat by a 370Z....they're not the crappy little Datsun they used to be. Nissan makes some pretty kick ass cars and this is one of their better ones.

Yea hes right, but as far as I know the mustang has the largest aftermarket support out of any mass produced car on the market, and the easiest to work as far as a novice mechanics concern, hmm yea as a fellow stangnet person says, the best mod is a driver mod, and yea those magazine stats are easily manipulated.

I know, it's just frustrating when the new Camaro and such have more hp. Oh well. As for the Porsche, for that price tag it should do more than beat a stock stang. It would be nice for the stang to be compared to other v8 monsters like the challenger, camaro, etc.. Not a 370 z and Hyundai Genesis. More cubes and hp would be nice though 350-375hp at least in a gt.

Look at it this way. The Mopar guys with the new Challengers must be royally pissed. As close as it is between the Mustang and the 370Z, the Mustang is still considerably quicker than the Challenger....which also to by default does it make the 370Z.

Then consider that the Challenger is probably the worst performing across the board (brakes, handling, mileage, etc) of the big three right now and add the fact that a well equipped Challenger R/T is running you close to $38,000 MSRP.

...well, lets just say the Mopar guys have plenty to complain about compared to us.

What do you expect, the 370z is lighter, and has more power. Evenly equipped, it's only like $1500 more too.

Here's an even better question to ask....how come the mustang only has 315hp in a 4.6l v8 and the new taurus SHO has 365hp in a 3.5l....it's all technology and numbers, nevermind the taurus is a twin turbo car, it's still a beast. The mustang is in a comfort zone right now, which is why they don't screw with it too much, and most people looking at a 370z aren't looking at mustangs and visa versa

Give yourself $2000 worth of mods on top of the msrp and see which car stands to be the victor??

how can you say "never mind the Taurus is a Twin Turbo car" when that's the sole reason its making 365hp and not something in the 240hp range? That's an awful big detail to ignore. I imagine its making the numbers that it is number one to live up to the SHO status that was instilled in it and number two to move around its portly curb weight and its AWD system. Even with all that power, its still only a 14-second car.

The Mustang on the other hand even with its small displacement and horsepower figures still does quite well. Dare I say better comparably than its Camaro and Challenger brethren when you consider the huge displacement and horsepower disadvantage and the relatively close performance figures.

13.7 @ 103mph for the SHO, and I believe that's with the 2.77 axle ratio and not the 3.16s you can upgrade into. And I was being facetious with the twin turbo comment The stock 3.5 is 263hp and 249tq.....sadly putting the 4.0l stang to complete shame power wise at least. I have no problem with the stang at all, I think the 370 is an ugly car anyways. Why do people compare a car with a back seat to one without one anyways??? Compare the 370 to a Vette, that makes more sense to me

Actually there is a vid of a MKZ with the 3.5 and AWD (basically the same car as the SHO with 20 or so LESS HP). It was a bone stock run and ran something like a mid 13 at 110-112mph or some crap. The AWD has some really soft tuning and is a DOG off the line from that tuning. I can see a stock SHO/any 3.5 AWD being a beast with some tuning and $2 spent in an aquarium shop.

The mustang has always been behind in the HP for the most part. Sales do not suffer and that is why they can make some "special" models that if you WANT factory hp you can often get it.

Customer where? So the stang beats it to 60mph. 5.0 seconds is real hard to beat.

Mustangs are just a secretary's car anyhow *quote the late carrol shelby*; always have and always will be. No suprise they are slower.

I would buy the 370 over it 7 days out of the week, at least its a sports car. Mustang = sitting high and going slow.

I hope you mean "late" to the meeting, because Carrol Shelby is still very much alive.

So C.S. wins dumbest quote of ...1967?
#1 A good day to him is a complicated bowel movement. I'll bet any Mustang, driven by any secretary makes it to top speed and back to zero 10 times before Car"old" Shelby gets his first PLOP out in the toilet.
#2 I don't care who he is, I don't like what he said.

Ford's playing the game like they have, and should. They'll make more power with less engine. It's a well known fact that the higher ups are playing with the "Coyote" 5.0 mod mill and they're looking to drop it in the '11 GT's. 400hp and equal torque on motor.

The Nissan is a well built car, and it's great to see that finally after all these years, they've decided that they can compete with the big boys.

I enjoy the fact that my car has unrefined power, not pretty power like all these new cars make. I'll leave the 370 to the gino's who buy'em and myself I'll stick to old fashioned death defiance.

Cheers,

The 370z may be faster but I'm pretty sure the mustangs have much larger sale numbers? Because they are still better, even while being slower
Mustangs have always been the underdog, camaros have been faster for awhile now, but you still see more mustangs out drivin around. It's just a better car imo

Haha, sorry yeah Shelby isn't dead....although he isn't my favorite person with his suing of everything shelby related anymore, he does make some good points and has really accomplished some neat things

V6/4cyl Mustangs drive sales, always have and will. It's a chick/commuter car for the populus. A little bit of performance styling, in a cheap package.....just without any performance

Who's car stays stock now a days anyway?

I really hope Ford doesnt make a GT that makes as much power as a camaro or challenger....

THey success for what, 20+ years has been with an underpowered affordable car that can be upgraded. I REALLY wish they would make a cobra/gt500 that was more affordable.

If they do make a 400hp GT, whats that gonna do to the price? It'll prolly cause a huge jump in V6 sales lol.
