I would appreciate it if anyone would care to share tips on getting the passenger side long-tube into place on a fox-body.I have the starter off, the engine jacked up as far as it goes and the plugs, wires and everything else out of the way.

I though I had read somewhere that MAC's were redesigned so they slipped in from the top now...I don't see that happening. I have worked with getting them in from the bottom, but either they won't go or the car isn't up high enough(it's on ramps).

Thanks....

Sounds like you are on track. Try loosening up the driver's side mount and backing the nut back about 3/4 way. I found this let me lift the passenger's side up higher.

For me, I had to completely remove my motor mount to be able to slide the header in easily. After I did this, I was able to slide the header in from the top without too much headache.

you'll need to loosen the engine mount and jack the motor up. I've never been able to get a set in from the top. You need to get the car off the ground as high as you possibly can because you'll definetly need to room to maneauver that thing around under the car.

When I installed mine I just had to unbolt the motor mounts and jack the engine up a bit. They slid right in from under the car (on a lift).. didn't have to remove the starter or do anything else.

Both of them can go in from the top. I just installed a set of mac longtubes about a month ago. Clearances are even tighter with the AOD, and I was able to do them.

What it took for me (passenger's side)

1. Completely removed passenger's motor mount
2. Completely removed starter
3. Completely removed smog pipe assembly (I left it out)
4. Unbolt passenger's side motor mount, backing the nut out 3/4 of the way
5. Jack the engine up as far as it would go.
6. Slide in from the top

This worked out. Slid in without too much persuasion. However I did have to make several clearance adjustments to make things fit.

Driver's side
1. Completely remove driver's side motor mount
2. Unbolt steering shaft at the rag joint and push it out of the way
3. Unbolt passenger's side motor mount, backing the nut out 3/4 of the way
4. Jacking up the engine as far as iit would go.
5. Slide in from the top.

No clearancing needed on this side.

I will admit that installing longtubes was the toughest, irritating, difficult, time-consuming, frustrating, aggrivating, annoying, etc thing I've ever done on my car. It really sucks but you will be glad to have them in once it's done and over with.

Plus, once you find the "right" way to maneuver them in/out it will be easier the next time.

Good luck, and I feel for ya.
