Want 12s

Do a minimal amount of mods first and a set good track tires and practice practice practice, that will drop your times more then any single mod....superchargers/nitrous excluded

Get some sticky tires, gears, tune up, timing bump and practice some. That will help alot but will not get you into the 12's. You will need some heads, intake, cam, exhaust, injectors, maf, fuel pump and a tune or just a good shot of nitrous to get it into the mid 12's Although some have done it with less.

185cc trickflows are pretty big heads with a port size close to a 205cc afr but due to the shorter port length the volume is lower hence the 185cc ports.

Truthfully that combo will be lazy in the lower rpm's as the cam is on the large side. A combo with large heads and decent intake on a small 302 will benefit from alot of lift and pretty low duration but that is not all there is to it. A custom cam will make the combo work pretty good but that off the shelf cam would not be a good match.

You can make a larger head work on a small engine but it will be very sensitive to valve timing and less forgiving to the wrong cam being picked. Which is why most people use smaller heads on 302's. They've always heard that large heads kill torque and they do if the cam is not matched exactly right to the combo.

A set of 170cc Trickflow TW's with some bowl blending and minor port work not really opening them up would be better if you are not planning on a custom cam.

AFR 185's are a pretty good head for a 302 but require either fly cutting the pistons or a custom cam designed to use with stock 5.0 pistons.

If your gonna use a custom cam call the person you are getting it from and ask what they recomend.

BTW Trickflow makes another head the 190cc Fast as Cast which is a cast version of the 185cnc'ed heads.

For a good custom cam look up camshaft innovations and flowtech induction.

I know camshaft innovations will sell you any of those trickflow heads with valvesprings setup for the cam they will grind you.

I think flowtech induction will do the same with afr heads.
