I'm having a coolant leak coming from the front of the engine and I'm pretty sure its from the water pump. It was doing this a short while ago and I replaced the water pump, but it's starting to leak again. There's also a howling/whining noise, could this be the bearings in the water pump wearing down? Anyway, what's a good way to check the seals in the water pump. I don't want to replace my waterpump if it's fine. Thanks.

first thing i would do is look at the weep hole that is on the water pump.......it is toward the nose of the pump where the bearing is, on the bottom.........2nd place to look and feel in inside the pullie.......make sure it is dry.......3rd, let it get up to operating temp and check around your hose's and the gasket sealing area.......hotwheels of insanemustangs

Buy or rent a pressure tester at your local parts store. This way you can get under and look to see where the coolant is leaking from without having the car running.

clean it up and then keep an eye on where the coolant is coming from. An overfilled coolant reservoir will dump coolant when the car is hot, a loose hose can cause leakage, etc.

If it is the pump and you have a mechanical fan, check the balance of the fan assembly. If there is an imbalance, it can take out water pump bearings.

Good luck.
