Water pump wobble?

Ok, it has been a long time...

We are trying to smooth this 289 out as much as possible and the water pump bearings seem to have some play in them. If you grab and move the fan blades you can feel a little bit of play in the bearings. Is this acceptable? Seems to me there shouldn't be any play.

If the bearings are starting to go and the fan where to wobble won't you be able to feel it in the car?

Uh... get a new water pump. Unless the fan bolts are loose, I can't beilieve you even asked. No, on second thought, I can't believe you asked.<a href="http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZNxdm117AAUS" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_12_13.gif" alt="Light Bulb" border="0"></a>

Water pump wobble

Just a flex fan, no clutch.

No leaking, yet...

Yes you can see some play in the shaft and pulley if you pull on the fan blades.

I will probably go ahead and get a new pump. However here is my follow on question (and I guess what started it all). Is the clearance between the pulley and the top bolt supposed to be this tight? It is maybe a 1/16th of an inch and any wobble in the pulley and starts skimming the top of the bolt (and sounds like crap).

Thanks for the help, sorry if these questions are a little basic, the car is a couple months new to us and I would rather ask a couple dumb questions then learn the hard way! :hail2:

Hmmm, never seen an aluminum plate like that on a 289. . . .

It seems that the aluminium bracket is the cause of your lack of clearance and a longer bolt was used to attach it.

Do you have an aftermarket AC unit or am I missing something?
