WeatherStripping Putting and Tint Removal Q

I was wondering how hard is it to put weatherstripping on the car? Since the owner before hand put a new paint job on the car Id thought Id replace all the weatherstripping to make it more cleaner.

Also theres some really cheap tint on my back window. Would a hairdryer to the tint remove that tint? Also if any of that adhesive stays on what should I wipe the window with to get it removed?

just peel the tint off.............if it is cheap & old it will probably pull off in slivers & will take awhile.
either way once you get all tint off you will need to scrap off glue while using a glass cleaner to help.
be very careful with the defroster lines on the back window.

when you pull that tint off it will leave the window very sticky and blurry. i used acetone on my tbirds drivers window and it wiped right off.

I dont have any acetone but could I find that at any pepboys or would any kinda of glass cleaner honestly work?

The factory door weatherstripping peels right off, no glue used. The trunk or hatch weatherstripping should be the same way. Texas Mustang Parts (http://www.texasmustang.com/ ) or 5.0Resto ( http://www.50resto.com/ ) will have it. Just don't buy the reproduction stuff, its poor fit & low quality, get the real Ford parts.

Jrichker - Is the weatherstriping from 50resto a Ford product? I was thinking of ordering it, but was a little concerned about the quality. I know some of the stuff they sell is poor quality.

window cleaner did not work as good as i thought it would. acetone would be at a hardware store or paint shop

I don't know. I got mine from Texas Mustang Parts. They give you the option to spend more for the Ford stuff that fits, or the reproduction stuff.

nail polish remover

I used some nail polish remover.. worked great for me.. Go and raid the g/f's supply

For the rubbers around the doors not hard at all,, did mine last summer

I got mine from them and it fit great,, and was very nice in quality

So some nail polish does the trick huh. Got plenty of that around the house for sure.

So the weatherstripping is just a slidiing into place type of thing?

You got it,, the nail polish worked good I took some cotton balls soked them in the nail polish and rubbed the glue from the tint. Then used a sharpe edge (razzor blade) actually I used an old metal spatchula.. lol hey it worked
The weather stripping went right into place.. used a glue to hold it in place.

What kinda of glue you talking about? like silicone or RTV sealent? such as?

it was a Weatherstrip, 3M Glue.. here is a pic of it.. something like 5 bucks a tube

Should beable to get it at pepboys or napa... I got mine from a glass/window installer shop. hope that helps out
