Hey all...Im sure this subject has been posted before but oh well...

Last night I was at the track watching my buddy run his Fox, & I decided to weigh my new coupe on the scales they had. It weighed in @ 3,190 lbs full weight without driver. Not bad for having an AOD, 17x8 & 17x9 with 275's in the rear, & a 1/2 tank of gas. The only thing lighter than stock would be the o/r H pipe... Once I swap in the 5 speed & get aluminum heads, Im sure she will shed another 80-100 lbs & then later on a k member swap, & removing the seats & she will be sub 3,000....

I know this is old news to you guys, but I am used to having 3,300-3,500 SN95's...

Yeah i just weighed my buddy's '89 GT the other day with nobody in it, full interior and all that and it was 3120. He does have a tubular K member and A arms and aluminum heads but also a T56 and 17s and a full trunk (spare/jack etc). He's never done any weight savings work so that's pretty good.

I'd really like to get mine down to under 3000 with me in it but i think that's gonna take a lot of work, or at least a serious diet on my part. Oddly enough it weighs the same as his GT does...3120...but with me in it vs. nobody in his. So by my math either i need to lose 120lbs (which would kill me..lol) or the car does. I weigh 235 so the car is already around 2880, it's gonna be hard to drop another 120 from a car that already doesn't weigh much.

my 93 coupe no a/c, no power stering, no smog pump, c4 tranny, alum drive shaft, no heater, no radio, just a race car 10 point cage mild steel. single t-76 turbo no intercooler, blowing in a carb had the stock tank but it was made to have a bigger pump on it. with my fat azz in it of 240 it was 2640 with half tank. it has the 5.5 in cowl hood and weld drag drag lites.

I'd be interested in knowing how you got it to weigh 2400 lbs?

the only other thing the car had that would get the weight down was i had a upr kit on it. the car had 3.5 single exhaust on it but i dont think that helped. the car has no parts under the dash. the car has no speakers, but it does have power windows and locks, it has all the lights. i had a stock 302 with canfield heads, stock cam ran like a 10.74 with 10-12 pounds of boost

Have yourself cloned and tell the clone you are too poor to feed him. Then you let him drive the car at the track in exchange for not feeding him...

how much do you think it would save going from power windows and locks to manual, and is there anyway to remove the power seat motors...cause mine don't work.

Well if you get rid of the power locks and windows and go manual, you'll drop roughly 10-15lbs max off each door. That's the window motor, lock actuator, wiring harness and the window mechanism. With the seats, i'm assuming they're GT style right? Those seats do weigh a considerable amount more than LX style seats but i couldn't even guess how much different they are.

I found another small reason that the 4 eyes are typically lighter than the aero nose cars...the dash itself weighs a lot less. The dash pad itself almost weighs nothing at all...it's basically a hard foam.

I have an lx with power seats. Thinking of going to manual stuff just because the locks don't work and I wouldn't mind manual windows if it saved some weight...working on some bang for the $ stuff right now and weight reduction is cheap

I'm curious as to what Hack Job weighs. 81 body with a full 87-93 body kit, glass moldings etc. 2V 4.6L, T45 trans, ABS, 2001 seats, dash and console. 2V's can't be much different than a 5.0L. Both have iron blocks, but the 2V has aluminum heads, plastice valve covers, and plastic intake.

So go get it weighed

Aren't the 4.6s a tad heavier than the 5.0s? Or is it just the DOHC 4.6's?

Hmmmm ... now I wanna go find a scale to find out how much my bare-bones '84 LX hatch weighs. Manual windows, manual locks, no center console, no stereo/speakers, all-original four-eye Fox ... hmmmm ... could get interesting if/when I actually have a decent motor and tranny to move it along.

That's basically my coupe except i have a stereo and 4 speakers (no subs, just 3 1/2's in the dash and 6x9s in the back). Mine clocked in at 2880 without me in it.

I would say at the least you're close to 3k, maybe a tad over or under. I don't know how much difference it would make being a hatch. It would be pretty cool for you to get it weighed so we could get an idea of just how much. I did gut the carpet out of mine and that dropped 60lbs, so before that it was 2940 with a full interior.
