Weird creaking/popping from passenger rear...VIDEO

Hello. Didn't know where to put this post. Please move if it is talk instead. My car is making a very odd sound from the passenger rear during acceleration or deceleration. Doesn't happen over speed bumps or when you bounce the rear end of the car up and down. I took a bad video tonight to see if anyone has any ideas:

Sway bar bolts are as tight as I can get them so its not those. My guess is the top of the spring is moving. I did remove the isolators a couple of months ago. Doesn't sound like a bushing to me. Please help! :SNSign:

Its really noticeable at the 1:08 mark in the video.

I know I sound like a broken record because when anybody says something about noise from the rear arm I mention the tabs behind the seat. Do a search on there. I've posted pics and explainations at least 3 times so it shouldn't be to hard to find. If you can't find it let me know. I feel your pain though. My rear end make noise for months and I tried everything until someone mentioned the tabs and all you do is bend them back a little so the metal isn't rubbing when the frame torques. Anyways, good luck

Thanks. I did find the posts you had made and took a look at the car. It seems like that spot is firmly together, but who knows. It may be that...or something else.

I'd get it up on a hoist and have a close (or second) look at the upper control arm mounts. Look for tears or ripped-out welds.

BTW, is it just me or is your rear axle making a bunch of noise, like around ~1:30?

I'll have to take a look at it. I'm really hoping its not any torque box or upper control arm mount damage. I've driven the car at the track three times and other than that baby it almost all the time. Yeah...its not just you with the rear end noise. I have some very bad whine from the gears that were put in. Thats next to be fixed after this annoying noise!

How many miles do you have on the car ? Have you inspected all of your bushings in the rear ? Double check your coil springs to make sure they are clocked correctly.

Car has almost 70K on it. Steeda Sports on it for about 40K. I had them out about 8 months ago when I put in the MM LCA's. I removed the isolators at that time. Maybe I'll just remove the spring and reseat it to see if that helps. I'll also take a look at the bushings again.

by any chance did you get the MM LCA XHD with the spherical bearing in one end and urethane in the other?

I have those and noticed alot more noise from the rear of my car. Yet it drives good and everything. Just be happy your car doesn't run really rough arounde 1500rpm with hardly any throttle. Mine does and will cut out and you can feel the annoying driveline slack and it will jerk back and forth. Probably gotta go back to the tuner.

Good luck with the noise though.

I had the exact same problem. I inspected my UCA bushings, turned out the ones attached to the pumpkin were shot. Replaced them with stock ones (using a nfity tool) and problem solved. I got everything from Stang Suspension. They only recommend using stock bushings and UCA's. Good luck.

Yeah..they are the LCA's with the spherical in one end and the urethane in the other. It does transmit more noise, you're right. Good luck with your issue Turbo.

Mel, I'll have to check out the UCA's when I have the car on stands this weekend. I hope I can figure it out. Thanks for the info.

Mine tabs were close too and that's the problem. Because they were not welded down and rubed when the frame torqued. I suggest you go back there with a flat head screwdriver and just bend the tabs away from the other piece and see if it helps. Takes like 5 min and I've seen a lot of stangs with this problem from the factory. I always like it when the fix is easy. Whatever it is, I hope you figure it out because I hate when the car has creaks and clunks. Makes me pissed when I drive it around like that.

UPDATE*****

I know its an old thread, but I wanted to give an update since I get frustrated when other threads don't have an update after an issue is brought up.

For this one, my buddy and I did two things to the rear end. We got it up on the jack stands and put the upper rear spring isolators back in the car. We saw no weird torque box damage and the UCA bushings seemed good. Also greased the zerk fittings on the MM LCA's. Sound is gone I don't know if it was the isolators or the greasing of the busings, but either way it fixed it.

Just wanted to let anyone else know who may search for this issue that this is what we did that fixed it so it may help other people out. I also appreciate all of the help from the people on the board :SNSign:

You been driving down my street? Shoulda heard mine yesterday - Mine does sit with a backseat full of people when turning into my driveway - it's more of a definate POP. With just me in the car, it almost never happens, but with a couple hundred extra pounds, it's very predictable. I'm swapping LCAs soon, so I'll have to ck the box areas as you've described.
